System Administrator

About this role

We are continuing to expand the engineering team; in this case, we are looking for a Systems Administrator with solid experience in infrastructure management, systems reliability and performance optimization, to help us keep a fast, secure and scalable platform.

What you’ll do

  • Participate actively in the design and implementation of the next generation of Wikiloc’s systems infrastructure, making it faster, more resilient and fault tolerant.
  • Collaborate on architecture design, capacity planning, fine-tuning, upgrades and evaluation of new technologies, in close collaboration with the backend team.
  • Supervise and maintain monitoring systems to ensure optimal performance of servers, applications and network components.
  • Resolve production incidents, analyze root causes and implement corrective measures.
  • Deploy and operate new services and technologies requested by product and engineering teams.
  • Improve and automate backup and disaster recovery processes to guarantee data safety and high availability.
  • Document processes, best practices and incident response protocols.
  • Provide technical support to other teams when decisions might affect systems performance, security or stability.

Must have

  • Strong learning capacity and analytical mindset.
  • Completed university studies in Computer Engineering.
  • More than 5 years of professional experience as a Systems Administrator or similar role.
  • Experience managing Linux-based production systems.
  • Solid knowledge of network administration, security best practices and monitoring tools.
  • Familiarity with some of our key infrastructure components: PostgreSQL, Redis, NGINX, HAProxy, Tomcat, ElasticSearch, CloudFlare, AWS, Ansible, Terraform, GitHub Actions or Docker.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines.
  • Ability to write and maintain Unix system scripts (Bash, Python, etc.).
  • Good SQL knowledge.
  • Self-management, focus on results and responsibility.
  • Good English level and understanding of Catalan.
  • Residence in Catalonia or availability to travel occasionally to the Girona offices.

Valued experience

  • Experience with Kubernetes, Hashicorp Nomad.
  • Knowledge of distributed systems, performance optimization and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
  • Passion for outdoor activities and familiarity with Wikiloc.

Your first months at Wikiloc

After an onboarding phase, you will start participating in existing projects with other team members. Once familiar with the tech stack, you will lead specific infrastructure initiatives, from scalability improvements to automation and advanced monitoring.


Backend Java Engineer

About this role

We are continuing to expand the engineering team; in this case, we are looking for people with solid experience as Backend Java Engineers, able to work close to systems and with deep knowledge of the backend ecosystem.

  • Participate actively in the development of the platform, with the goal of optimizing performance, scalability and robustness.
  • You will make decisions on current and new technology and ship developments that have a direct impact on the experience of millions of users worldwide in real time.

We need someone with a technical, analytical mindset and autonomy, who not only implements features, but also contributes to improving the architecture, reducing complexity and evolving the system.

Must have

  • Strong learning ability and capacity to synthesize knowledge.
  • Completed university studies in Computer Science, software engineering or similar.
  • More than 5 years of professional experience related to software development.
  • More than 3 years of backend development experience, with strong Java skills.
  • Clear focus on security best practices.
  • Time self-management and focus on delivering quality results.

  • Residence in Catalonia or availability to travel occasionally to the Girona offices.

Nice to have

  • Mastery of relational databases (PostgreSQL), NoSQL (Redis) and ElasticSearch.

Your first months at Wikiloc

After an onboarding phase, you will first participate in an existing project with other team members. Once familiar with the tech stack, you will take on kanbans where you will have a more leading role. Finally, you will pilot a small project where you actively interact with other members of the company and take on more responsibility.


Maps engineer

About this role

We are looking for a Web Mapping & GIS specialist. You will design and develop new mapping features. With the help of designers and the rest of the team, you’ll create new features long awaited by Wikiloc Community, helping better track visualization and improve offline maps and more.

What you’ll do

  • Develop new user-facing mapping features.
  • Online maps, offline maps, Digital Elevation Models, Vector tiles.
  • Web mapping development.
  • Optimize solutions for maximum speed and scalability.
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders.

Must have

  • Have 2+ years of professional experience.
  • Strong Linux command line skills.
  • Docker experience.
  • Solid Postgres/Postgis knowledge.
  • Web mapping: Leaflet, MapLibre or similar.
  • Strong VectorTiles and OGC standards knowledge.
  • Degree in Computer science or Geoscience.
  • Good English level and understanding of Catalan.
  • Residence in Catalonia or availability to travel occasionally to the Girona offices.

Valued experience

  • Master or degree in GIS.
  • Map Styling.
  • OpenStreetMap toolchain.
  • Cloud infrastructure experience (AWS or similar).
  • BigQuery geospatial.
  • Geometry libraries like Java JTS, turf.js and similar are a plus.

Your first months at Wikiloc

After an onboarding phase, you will start participating in existing mapping projects with other team members. Once familiar with the stack, you will take ownership of specific initiatives, improving map data, performance and new visual features.


iOS Engineer

About this role

We are hiring an iOS engineer to develop high-quality features for the Wikiloc app.

Millions of people use Wikiloc and rely on it for their outdoor experiences. Our iOS team currently consists of four engineers. We are looking for another team member to join us and help us improve the app and deliver delightful outdoor experiences for the Wikiloc community.

Our app is written in Swift, using a mix of functional reactive programming with Combine and Swift Concurrency. We build our UI with SwiftUI, while most of our older UI is implemented with UIKit. Testing and continuous integration are an essential part of our development process. We maintain a strong test suite, including both unit and UI tests, to keep the app reliable as it evolves.

Our watchOS app follows the same architectural patterns and is built entirely with SwiftUI.

What you’ll do

As an iOS Engineer at Wikiloc, here are just a few examples of things you might work on:

  • The next generation of offline maps for the mobile app.

Android Engineer

About this role

Currently, our Android team consists of four people. We are looking for another team member to join us and help us improve the app and deliver delightful outdoor experiences for the Wikiloc community.

For this position, we are looking for someone who has experience developing Android apps, solid programming skills, and a sharp analytical mind. Having good product taste and empathy for people is a must too. Above all, we are looking for managers of one. If you're a go-getter with a love for product craftsmanship and a sense of urgency for shipping new and exciting features, or if you are someone who's not afraid of diving into a big codebase to fix a hairy bug, we want you.

Our app is built on a modern and evolving Android stack, with a strong focus on Kotlin-first development. We make extensive use of Coroutines and Flows for asynchronous and reactive programming, Jetpack Compose for UI, and Kotlin Multiplatform to share business logic across platforms. We follow an MVVM architecture with a strong emphasis on Unidirectional Data Flow (UDF), aiming for predictable state management, testability, and long-term maintainability. The codebase leverages Jetpack libraries, Retrofit, Firebase, and Koin, and is actively evolving as the platform and product grow. We value engineers who care about architecture, code quality, scalability, and clear abstractions, and who enjoy contributing to technical decisions and improving how things are built over time.
