Biography
I was born in Barking, Essex on the eastern fringes of London on a Saturday in the 1960s when Spurs lost. [1] My lovely Dad never let me forget that.
I had an idyllic childhood full of trees, bikes, football and mud. Parents who were encouraging but not pushy. They opened our eyes to what was possible.
I grew up in Barking, but knew that once I had left London to go to medical school, I would never be going back. A chance interview took me to Nottingham for a 12 month post at the City Hospital, and 25 years later I'm still here.
Our family were dockers in the London docks living in squalid poverty a hundred years ago. My parents were the first generation to have a university education (albeit as mature students) and their own house. Me and my sister are standing on the shoulders of giants, our East End forebears who could see what was possible if we believed and were prepared to keep at it.
Research and Stuff
My genealogy research started in earnest after Mum died in 2002 (her funeral was on the day that England went out to Brazil in the World Cup [2]). Dad had always wondered where his Fitz-Henry roots came from. We never did find out while he was still alive. Even now he is gone, his DNA pattern is still there at FamilyTreeDNA waiting for that elusive Y-DNA match. Thank you for that Dad.
I co-ordinate the Fitzhenry and Fitzharris One Name Study at the Guild of One Name Studies (study number 4389). I'm also one of the Regional Reps for Nottinghamshire, even though Notts is one of the most Fitz-Henry-less places in the UK.
I have been tracing my own Fitz-Henry family for nearly 20 years, and have traced many other disconnected Fitzhenry and Fitzharris branches along the way. Mine are distinctly unhelpful in leaving clues to their origins, but the DNA pattern points to links to the Fitzhenry/Fitzharris families from County Wexford rather than the genetically distinct family from County Galway.
I also co-ordinate the Fitzhenry / Fitzharris DNA study at FamilyTreeDNA (Y testers and autosomal testers welcome!).
If you have taken an autosomal DNA test and you have the Fitzhenry or Fitzharris name in your family, please get in touch and let's see what we can find.
Many thanks to my wonderful network of Fitzhenry and Fitzharris contacts around the world, and especially Gretta Browne of Clonroche, County Wexford without who I wouldn't have got half as far as I have with it all.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, this is the Thomas Dunn I am referring to. Regards, Eric
I wanted to fix a broken link on the profile for Nicholas Spicer, Spicer-1895, but have stumbled across the pre-1700 certification, which requires, among other things, that I reach out to a project co-ordinator to check that there is no duplicate. The link I wish to edit is to the Royal Albert Museum and Art Gallery, who have updated their website, making the old link on this profile break. As the rules on source validity stand, the RAMM is not deemed a reliable source. Would we be able to add that as a reliable source, given its scholarly context? Many thanks, Emma

Elizabeth, co-leader, England Project
It looks like we are distant relatives about 5cm. I am closer to 4th to 6th cousins with many other Pettus and Ragland. Do you know much about a George Pettus, Virginia?
Cheers, Jo

Jo, England Project Managed Profiles Team Coordinator
You posted a comment that identified what you had found, the suggestion you had for me to correct it, and what additional steps you was going to take for other profiles in that family.
The wording was clear, polite, kind and helpful in tone. It gave me exactly what I needed to take action in a timely and timesaving way.
Bravo, Jo Fitz-Henry!! You put a smile on my face!
Thanks again! I definitely look forward to any messages you may may send me as profile manager or as Bartlett Name Study Coordinator. -Sherry Bartlett
