Aquarius Facts
- Aquarius is a Latin word; the English meaning/translation is the Water Carrier.
- Aquarius's pronunciation is Ack-where-e-us.
- The genitive form is Aquarii, which means that any object with "Aquarii" at the end of its name implies a relationship to the constellation. Typically, the thing is within the constellation's boundaries or was once, until the borders were redrawn.
- Aquarius can be shortened or abbreviated to Aqr.
- Aquarius (Constellation) takes up 979.854 sq. degrees of the night sky, equating to 2.38% of the night sky. Aquarius is the 10th largest constellation in the night sky.
- The following constellations border Aquarius:-
- The Helix Nebula, a planetary nebula is the closest nebula to Earth.
- Trappist-1 is a small insignificant star in the constellation of Aquarius. With an apparent magnitude of 18.80, you need a telescope of at least 18 inches to see it. It has been discovered that the star has at least seven stars. Only our solar system has more. Some planets were said to be close to the star and, therefore, in the Goldilocks zone. It is one of the few stars to have a dedicated website.
Zodiac
Aquarius is a member of the Zodiac group of 12 constellations. Astrologers use the Zodiac constellations to predict someone's future based on their date of birth and which constellation appears after Sunset. The official date range for Aquarians are 21st Jan to 19th Feb.
The Zodiac astrological year may be divided equally between the twelve signs, but when they appear in the night sky, they no longer conform to the Zodiac calendar. The Zodiac constellations are the fourteen signs along the Ecliptic, although only twelve are used in astrology. The extra two are Ophiuchus and Cetus.
Aquarius Stars
Ross 780 is Aquarius's nearest star, about 15.29 light-years from the Earth. Ross 780 is also the nearest star in the constellation of Aquarius, with at least one orbiting exoplanet.
Aquarius has fourteen stars that make up the constellation's shape. You can see one hundred and eighty-eight stars within the Aquarius constellation borders with the naked eye.
Sadalsuud
Aquarius's brightest star is Sadalsuud, about 537.34 light-years from the Sun. It is a yellow supergiant giant star. The star is designated as Beta Aquarii rather than Alpha Aquarii. Alpha stars tend to be the brightest in the constellation. Sadalsuud has an apparent magnitude of 2.9 but an absolute magnitude of -3.18. The difference between the magnitudes is that the object's absolute magnitude is from 10 Parsecs or 32.6 light-years away from the observer, whereas the apparent magnitude is from Earth.
Bunda
Bunda, also known by its bayer designation as XI Aquarii. Bunda is a spectroscopic binary star, meaning you cannot distinguish between the two stars as they are so close to one another.
X Aquarii
X Aquarii is a S Type star. S-type stars are cool giant stars where the amount of oxygen and carbon is roughly equal. They are post-main sequence, so they have finished or nearly finished fusing hydrogen into helium and are expanding as the outward pressure is overriding the inward pressure of Gravity.
Other Major Stars
This is a list of other stars that make up part of the constellation but have been detailed above yet. Other visible stars in the constellation can be found Aquarius Star List page.

How to Find Aquarius in the night sky
Northern Hemisphere
London, United Kingdom, Aquarius can be seen in the sky from about 9 pm in September, but the constellation does not get that high. By December, the constellation will have disappeared.
Miami, United States, Aquarius can be seen from about September to January, the same as above, but unlike London, it can reach higher into the sky at about 9 pm.
Southern Hemisphere
Aquarius is visible from about August through to December. It will get higher in the sky in the southern hemisphere compared to the northern hemisphere.
Aquarius Mythology
Zeus took a liking to Ganymede, the son of Tros, who built Troy. He instructed the boy to become his water bearer. The job had previously been done by Hebe, the daughter of Hera. Hera, Zeus's wife, was so angry about the relationship between Zeus and Ganymede that she made it known. In revenge for Zeus glorifying Ganymede, Hera turned Ganymede into a constellation.
Ganymede is the same character from mythology that the JupitermoonGanymede gets its name. Ganymede is the largest moon that orbits Jupiter, the gas giant. In addition to being the largest Jupiter moon, it is the largest moon orbiting any planet in the solar system, and it is bigger than our moon. Our moon is the largest in comparison to the planet it orbits.
Aquarius Deep Space Objects
Charles Messier, a French astronomer of the eighteenth century (1730-1817), added three objects to his Messier catalogue. All three are star clusters, and the last two are globular clusters.
NGC 7522
NGC 7522 is an object of unknown nature. It may be a galaxy, star or nebula, but given the distance, it is not easy to tell what it is.
Sn 2006Ph
Sn 2006Ph is a Supernova remnant of a massive star that has died. The supernova was discovered in 2006, hence the number in its name. It is not what befalls our Sun when it dies. When the Sun dies, it will die, releasing its mass in stellar winds of a Planetary Nebula.
Hvc 076.8-59.5-221
Hvc 076.8-59.5-221 is a high velocity cloud. Currently, we do not have details of its velocity or direction.
Phl 5285
Phl 5285 is a Blue Objects. These objects from the original study time appear on blue photographic plates but not on red ones. Their status is probably updated. Blue objects tend to be recategorised as a White Dwarf but not always.
