Wrought Iron
An alloy of carbon and iron containing up to 1.2 percent carbon. The iron also contains fine fibers of slag (mostly ferrous silicate) which run in the direction in which the iron ingot is rolled. Wrought iron has high corrosion resistance, is easily welded, and in general is easily worked. It is this variety of iron that is most encountered in the “iron” parts of horse-drawn farm implements.
