Ream the hole gradually with a 2/0
taper pin reamer until the
taper pin is centered when it is tapped in place.
Use either a drill or reamer of the correct size to match straight pins or a Number "0"
taper pin reamer if using tapered pins.
To make things easy for myself and other builders, I decided to turn my
taper pin gas block into a set screw block.
Otherwise, what I use are a 1/4" and 3/8"
taper pin available from your local hardware store; a 1/4-20 nylon machine screw; and a non-marring 1/4" punch and hammer.
On the other hand, applying too much force when hammering in the
taper pin can damage the leaking tubewall and tubesheet.
Once that first pin is out put some cutting oil on your
taper pin reamer (Brownells #080-000-674AK or Size #0 from MSC Industrial Supply.) The reamer needs to be inserted from the fat side of the hole on the right (ejection port) side.
To drive out the
taper pin you drive on the small end.
