Berners was closely identified with the remarkable Ballet Russe during Diaghilev's last years when it produced an exotic mixture of genuinely creative masterpieces as well as monuments of pseudery.
They've tried to turn George Orwell's satirical 1936 novel about the Bohemian life and political pseudery into a wacky Thirties-style British screwball comedy but unfortunately the net result is simply old- fashioned and a bit patronising.
