He had hoped to have the skin removed by the NHS through a procedure known as an
apronectomy. But health chiefs say he doesn't meet the criteria for the operation because his weight has not been stable for two years.
A spokesman for Health Commission Wales (HCW) said: "While we cannot comment on any individual case it should be noted that HCW always considers exceptional cases and will consider abdominoplasty/
apronectomy for individuals suffering from severe functional problems that have a negative impact on their day-to-day life."
The operation generally performed is called an
apronectomy and removes the large fold of skin from your abdomen and reshapes it.
He underwent gastric stapling and
apronectomy at the age of 40 years, initially reducing his weight from 180 kg to 150 kg only to regain this weight, and more, in the ensuing years.
