Sichuan pepper

or Szechuan pepper or Szechwan pepper

1. Any of several spiny East Asian trees or shrubs of the genus Zanthoxylum, especially Z. simulans, having aromatic bark, pinnately compound leaves, and small dry reddish fruit, used as a spice.
2. The husks of the fruit of any of these plants, used whole or ground.

First up was the Toasted Pistachio Cake with Chinese Pomelo, White Chocolate Mousse and Sichuan Pepper. Now I'm a sucker for white chocolate, so mix it with a fruity citrus flavour and a bit of heat, and you have the makings of an exquisite pudding.

Hoentays are stuffed with boiled turnip, dried turnip greens, ground ginger, garlic, sichuan pepper, walnuts, almonds, local cheese, imported cheese, oil, butter, red chili powder, finely chopped onion and green chili and salt among others.
The noodles are unusual because they have a scalloped, thin edge, while the centerline is thicker, giving it the "mouth feel and texture of a noodle that is both thick and thin at the same time." Lienesch adds that the Sichuan pepper oil and scallion flavor give it a good savory taste that is not too spicy or salty.
Used in Chinese dishes, it's fried and seasoned with Sichuan pepper, garlic and ginger resulting in a lip-numbing spicy dish that is not for the faint-hearted.
The Sichuan pepper packs a punch in dishes such as the local hot pot (huo guo), and pork dumplings in spicy soup (ma la chao shou).
