On Tuesday, Catalan police arrested Jonathan Andic, the son of Mango founder Isak Andic, and are questioning him over the death of his father.

Isak, who was 71, reportedly fell nearly 500 feet to his death while on a hike with Jonathan in Montserrat in December 2024. Initially, the founder’s passing was ruled an accident, per the BBC, but late last year, local media outlets reported investigators were looking into a possible homicide with Jonathan as a suspect. According to Vanguardia, there were alleged inconsistencies in Jonathan’s statements to police.

Jonathan, who acts as vice-chairman of the board for Mango Fashion Group and has worked at the fashion giant since 2005, reportedly told authorities he’d been hiking ahead of Isak when he heard the sound of stones falling, only to turn and watch his father fall off the cliff. According to El País and The Guardian, Isak’s romantic partner told investigators “the relationship between father and son was bad.”

Following Jonathan’s arrest, a spokesperson for the family told The Guardian that the “cooperation has been, and will remain, total,” and that they were “confident of Jonathan Andic’s innocence.” An additional statement from the family reportedly said they have “not and will not comment on Isak Andic’s death in all these months.”

“However,” it went on, “they wish to show their respect for the ongoing investigations and will continue to cooperate with the relevant authorities, as they have done so far. They are also confident that this process will be concluded as soon as possible and that Jonathan Andic’s innocence will be proved.”
