Redo Market

Redo Market is a vintage show and marketplace in Southern California showcasing more than 200 vendors with an eclectic mix of surf, skate, clothing, jewelry, home goods, art, and more. Held in multiple locations in Orange County, the most recent in Dana Point took over four city blocks in the historic Lantern District, drawing more than 20,000 people. I was one of them, there for a Surfer Stories book signing in the middle of it all.

Redo Market is the brainchild of Randy Hild (top middle and below), a surf industry veteran with a storied career in action sports that spans more than 30 years. I first met him when I was an editor at Condé Nast during the launch of Sports for Women, when he was Global Creative Director at Quiksilver. Hild was the visionary force behind Roxy, building it into one of the largest and most influential brands in surf – and sparking my own enduring fascination with its history, culture, and style.

The first Redo Market was in 2017 in Dana Point, Ca. At the time, the city manager was looking to revitalize its downtown with a street event, and reached out to Hild. Ideas ranged from a motocross showcase to a halfpipe skate demo to a music festival — but ultimately it was the concept of a vintage market, filtered through Randy’s distinct creative lens, that came together.

Since then, Redo has evolved into something much bigger than a marketplace. Live music fills multiple stages, food and drink vendors line the streets, and crowds come from across Orange County and San Diego to enjoy it all. Redo Market has become a vibrant community gathering of family and friends, and brings together people of all ages for a fun packed Sunday!
