Deleted a client's personal files, system restore didn't work and can't get files back
Open | Data Recovery

I got a ticket to delete files on some client's computers, and when I got to the last one I tackled it like normal.

I set up a system restore point and started getting rid of programs (Minecraft, old stuff they didn't use) and temp files. I still needed some more room and noticed they had an old backup on their computer and deleted it.

Turns out, this laptop is their personal laptop, and the backup was from an older computer that had pictures/documents from 2005. Needless to say they were pissed.

I've apologized profusely, tried my system restore and it didn't bring the backup back. I even paid for a data recovery program and got most stuff back other than some of the older pictures.

I'm gonna loop my boss on Monday about this, but feeling pretty ashamed and silly about this whole situation. Any advice or love to share?

Update: I was able to contact my boss as they are the supervisor on call this weekend

TURNS OUT: another tech also wiped data from this same user two weeks ago so my boss is very familiar with this client. WE HAVE A BACKUP.

We have a backup from our rmm as well that i dont have access to. We were able to message the tech who did the previous issue and they confirmed that they could take over on Monday.

My job is safe as of now and I got chewed out a bit. I really appreciate the different perspectives advice and tips!

Solved

I’m using Windows and was connected to my computer remotely. While using it, I accidentally turned on Airplane Mode. The remote session disconnected immediately. I don’t think I can reconnect unless someone physically turns Airplane Mode off.

Is there any way to recover from this remotely, or am I stuck until someone can access the machine in person?

For the future, what’s the best way to prevent this from happening again?

Edit:
- As some people suggested, i asked chatgpt to write me a python script that periodically turns off Airplane Mode and turns Wi-Fi back on. It's doable, so I’ll run it on my remote computer.
- I will invest one on KVM or smart plug or Ethernet.
- I ordered a pizza, he will help me turn it on 😃

- For anyone curious about how it happened: I turned off Bluetooth, which made the icon freeze for a moment. Then it disappeared and the Airplane Mode icon showed up in its place, and I accidentally clicked it.

Thanks!!!!!

Dead Laptop Will Not Charge
Dead Laptop Will Not Charge

hi there, I have an HP Pavilion laptop that I got around a year and a half ago. I've never had any issues charging it before but all of a sudden, my computer stopped charging. I tried 3 different wires (2 lightning cables and a thunderbolt 4 cable), none have worked. All of them are functional chargers though as I've tested them with my cell phone. As of right now it's dead, I've done a static electricity reset, and still it refuses to charge or turn on. I doubt it's the type c port either as even the USB port wouldn't charge the laptop. what's odd too is I haven't had any issues with charging it at all ever. it always charged at a reasonable rate, plugged in fine, the ports are clean - so I'm truly at a loss.

if anyone has any advice I would be glad to hear it ..I have so much college work I need to get some tomorrow :'(
