OMSK is a retail application designed to be a restricted interface for Kiosk PS4 units found in game/electronic stores. Kiosk PS4 units do not use different hardware (unlike PS4 DevKits/TestKits), but are just retail PS4s in IDU Mode with a PS4 IDU Disc inserted. These IDU discs automatically install OMSK and its OMSK Daemon along with a collection of demos, videos and descriptions. The IDU Mode automatically updates the console on boot so it is adviced to physically disconnect internet from the console and to remove any PUP file stored on the HDD, USB storage device or disc (CD, DVD, BD). The OMSK Daemon also installs automatically the PUP stored on the disc if the configuration file requires so.

  • IDU Disc demos use a non-console and non-account specific .rif licenses, meaning they can be installed and launched on any PS4 and without a PSN connection.

Installation[edit | edit source]

It is adviced to install OMSK Daemon before OMSK because the Daemon can install PKG files from USB and in particular OMSK PKG.

OMSK Daemon[edit | edit source]

To install OMSK Daemon, the official way is to enter IDU Mode then to insert a PS4 IDU Disc. These discs contain the OMSK Daemon PKG and RIF files.

Another official method is to use the Package Installer available in Debug Settings on Dev/Test Kit and internal consoles. Insert a USB key containing the OMSK Daemon PKG and RIF files at its root.

The easiest unofficial way on PS4 System Software <=13.00 is to run a kernel exploit that patches kernel to enable Debug Settings and then install the OMSK Daemon PKG from USB.

A method that works from PS4 2.50 to latest System Software without any exploit, but not on Dev/Test kits, is to restore a PS4 backup from USB using the Backup And Restore utility in settings. The backup must have been done on a PS4 console on System Software 2.50 and later that contained the OMSK Daemon.

It may be possible to insert an expanded USB storage device that contains the OMSK Daemon. (to confirm)

It is possible to inject OMSK Daemon files into the internal HDD of a PS4 if the per-console EAP HDD Key of that PS4 is known or if the Serial Flash of that console was dumped. Then, rebuilding the database should make the OMSK Daemon icon appear.

OMSK[edit | edit source]

OMSK can be installed the same way as OMSK Daemon, or thanks to the latter. Indeed, after launching the OMSK Daemon, any inserted USB storage device is scanned for every PKG and RIF pair files in the /pkg/ and /patch/ folders and are automatically installed if valid.

Applications[edit | edit source]

Application Launch[edit | edit source]

The OMSK application displays installed demos covers and allows the user to launch the demo by clicking on its cover. The User Interface is very simple and similar to the MultiMan homebrew on PS3.

PKG Installation[edit | edit source]

By using the base files found on PS4 IDU Discs, injected into a Backup And Restore archive, any PS4 can install the OMSK Daemon and a fPKG placeholder.

The OMSK Daemon can be used to install any retail PKG on any firmware, as long as the license bound to the PKG (and PSN account if needed) is also present, and in the case of patches and additional contents, that the base game is already installed.
