Under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, new federal student loan caps could take effect in 2026. The Department of Education has proposed redefining “professional degree” programs in a way that would exclude advanced nursing degrees —including MSN, DNP, and nursing PhD programs—making graduate education financially out of reach for many nurses. A strong nursing workforce is essential to patient safety. Congress must act now to protect it.
