I logged in as an admin to try to edit the sidebar menu for my wiki, but was unable to, with this message displayed:

"This page provides interface text for the software on this wiki, and is protected to prevent abuse. To add or change translations for all wikis, please use translatewiki.net, the MediaWiki localisation project."

I don't know when this change happened or how, but I'd like to be able to edit the sidebar menu link labels. There is no translation of this page, nor do I know anything about the framework behind wiki translations and localisation.

What do I do from here to get back to a 1-language wiki, or at least a situation where I can edit the page? Anbh42 (talk) 12:24, 25 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

It shouldn't be the case. Can you edit other pages in the Mediawiki: namespace? 94rain Talk 19:26, 26 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

The info here assumes the legacy Vector skin on a desktop computer. It should probably acknowledge that and be updated to mention where the sidebar normally appears (or doesn't) in different (popular) skins and different form factors (i.e., mobile). - dcljr (talk) 09:48, 21 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
