We are pleased to announce the following individuals as regional members of the U4C, who will fulfill a two-year term:

  • North America (USA and Canada)
  • Northern and Western Europe
  • Latin America and Caribbean
  • Central and East Europe (CEE)
  • Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Middle East and North Africa
  • East, South East Asia and Pacific (ESEAP)

The following individuals are elected to be community-at-large members of the U4C, fulfilling a one-year term:

Thank you again to everyone who participated in this process and much appreciation to the candidates for your leadership and dedication to the Wikimedia movement and community.

Over the next few weeks, the U4C will begin meeting and planning the 2024-25 year in supporting the implementation and review of the UCoC and Enforcement Guidelines. Follow their work on Meta-wiki.

Restricting translation unfuzzying

[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

gerrit:1035601, which will allow us to restrict unfuzzying translations, is under review. Once that is merged and deployed, I propose we limit it to autoconfirmed users, which is slightly more lenient than the current Special:AbuseFilter/96 (which requires 20 edits). This should be uncontroversial as a pro-forma action given the existing abuse filter, but I should get consensus anyway per m:Requesting wiki configuration changes.

Unlike the abuse filter, this applies to all edits, even ones that do change the tunit page. The changes to the tunit page are still applied, but the unit is left marked as fuzzy. * Pppery * it has begun 16:49, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

I've recently created an extension (CustomSearchProfiles) and I've made a page for it here. However, I use a git forge that's not Github, Gitlab, SourceForge, or Bitbucket. What template would I use to link to the source code repository?

(I was directed here from meta wiki) BlankEclair (talk) 12:05, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

It looks like this got resolved a few minutes later? :) –Quiddity (talk) 17:48, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Whilst we have download templates for most of the larger providers that are used we don't have ones for every possible code source, I've manually recreated something similar directly on the page.
Note: {{GitlabDownload}} with custom domain, was very similar and almost worked, although there is a slight difference with how GitLab and Forgejo generate its commit history links. P858snake (talk) 22:58, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

This [1] page links incorrectly to the archive. I tired to fix it but you have to be an admin to edit it.

Rich Farmbrough 14:31, 18 June 2024 (UTC). Rich Farmbrough (talk) 14:49, 18 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Fixed. And I also took the opportunity to move the page away from the deprecated StructuredDiscussions system. The requirement wasn't actually that you be an admin, but instead that you be autopatrolled, which I've now granted. * Pppery * it has begun 14:53, 18 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Wrong times

[edit]

The dates on the headers of conversations often don't match the latest comment. Is this a problem due to misconfiguration here or a bug in the software?

Rich Farmbrough 14:53, 18 June 2024 (UTC). Rich Farmbrough (talk) 14:53, 18 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

I dont see it (all the dates look correct to me)... but flow is marked for death so its probably going to go away sooner than later anyways. Bawolff (talk) 15:17, 18 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
The date on the header reflects the latest comment – even if that comment has been hidden/deleted (e.g. for being a test edit), in which case of course you won’t perceive it as the latest comment (as you won’t see it); yet the date in the header will still take it into account. Is this flow or liquid threads or something else? Rich Farmbrough (talk) 14:54, 18 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

This is Flow. * Pppery * it has begun 14:55, 18 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. It's not terrible but it seems foolish to have two interfaces. Lack of edit summaries seems really bad.
Where do we log bugs? Rich Farmbrough (talk) 15:00, 18 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
The answer to that question would in theory be Phabricator, but Flow is no longer actively maintained and will be undeployed soon (hopefully) so any bugs will almost certainly languish for a very long time without getting fixed. * Pppery * it has begun 15:02, 18 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ooh that would be very nice for some of us. I'm just looking over old stuff, most of which never got done, so I guess I won't hold my breath for flow to go.
(I see that development stopped about 9 years ago [2] so it's already well past it's sell by date.) Rich Farmbrough (talk) 15:15, 18 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Should I be able to create a project page?

I want to create a project page for a tool I'm building on toolforge. Wikimedia_Product_Guidance/Starting_a_project_page implies that project pages should live in the main namespace. But when I tried to create one, it told me I can't. Am I misunderstanding something? ~ Marnanel (talk) 13:50, 20 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

That guidance is for Wikimedia Foundation staff, to ensure that there is community-facing documentation of work underway. That said, documentation pages of projects that are in the scope of this wiki are welcome here.
When you say "it told me I can't", what is "it" (presumably an error in the editor when trying to publish?), and what specifically were you told?. If you were linking to an external site, such as a repo on GitHub, that will stop you as you're a new user, which could be the problem? Jdforrester (WMF) (talk) 14:45, 20 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
They triggered Special:AbuseFilter/83, which prevents people with <10 edits, other than autopatrollers and WMF staff, from creating pages in mainspace. * Pppery * it has begun 14:49, 20 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Try now - I've adjusted the filter. Leaderboard (talk) 18:20, 20 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Aha, thanks both. @Marnanel, does it work for you now? Jdforrester (WMF) (talk) 20:18, 20 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Working fine. Thank you for your help! Marnanel (talk) 19:27, 21 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

"Unconstructive translation"

[edit]

So I was translating the title of Manual:$wgRC2UDPPrefix to Spanish but it marked my translation unconstructive because it was the same thing, tho is like that because $wgRC2UDPPrefix is obviously not being translated and Manual is the same in Spanish Emicraftnoob (talk) 04:32, 23 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the feedback, but the filter is necessary to prevent vandals from adding fake translations that only admins can delete. You changed nothing on the translation, so effectively there's nothing lost by rejecting your edit. When you get sufficient edit history on this wiki, some of those filters will no longer apply to your edits. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 08:57, 25 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Unknown error in PHP's mail() function

[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Good day all.. I am trying to authenticate my email address within the MediaWiki, but when trying to generate the ConfirmationCode it returns with ERR: Feedback from the mail server: Unknown error in the PHP function mail().

As per MediaWiki there is a instruction on what to do, but unfortunately this does not apply to my .php script.

As per instruction there must be within the "sendmail.php" script an section called "$wgSMTP", but this does not exist in my .php script.

Info: I did setup MediaWiki on the Synology-Server and downloaded from PackageManager within Synology.

Question:

  1. Can I just add the "$wgSMTP" to the existing .php script?
  2. Do you have any other solutions?

Any assistance is highly appreciated.

Best, Tim VerticalTec (talk) 11:21, 25 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
