How to restart the translation

Help:Extension:ParserFunctions says "As with #len, <nowiki> and other tag extensions are treated as having a length of zero for the purposes of character position."
The <nowiki> tag used to have a length of 1, but at some point it changed to have a length of 0. As a result, it no longer aligns with the explanation "for the purposes of character position." Shirayuki (talk) 00:37, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
- Fixed Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 11:22, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
- I have made the following modifications similar to "#len". Please let me know if there are any issues:
- As with #len, <nowiki> and other tag extensions are treated as having a length of zero, since their content is hidden from the parser. Shirayuki (talk) 12:06, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
- That's correct, yes Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 13:03, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
Issue adding a link to a MediaWiki page [GSoC '23]
[edit]The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
I am one of the contributors for GSoC '23. As documented in Google Summer of Code/Participants, I have to update the [[Google Summer of Code/2023#Accepted projects:~:text=with extended deadlines-,Accepted projects,-[edit]|Accepted Projects]] with a reference to my blog posts bi-weekly. I was trying to publish my edits to the table but had the following error:
Welcome to MediaWiki.
It seems that you're trying to add an external link to a page. Please note that this site (MediaWiki.org) is not Wikipedia. MediaWiki.org exists solely for the documentation of the MediaWiki software and that off-topic material is not accepted here. If you're interested in working on Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, check it out directly. If you believe that you received this message in error or have a legitimate need for the link, please file a request here.
Can someone please help me resolve this? Thank you. SaurabhJamadagni (talk) 12:46, 15 June 2023 (UTC)
- I exempted that page from the restriction. Please try again. Bawolff (talk) 14:47, 15 June 2023 (UTC)
- Yes that worked. Thank you so much for your help :) SaurabhJamadagni (talk) 14:51, 15 June 2023 (UTC)

https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Board/Policies/20230615-Statement Miraheze is ceasing operations on no later than October 1st, I am posting this because many pages on this wiki mention Miraheze (like Extension:CreateWiki and a few others). Quite a few pages might need to be updated soon.... GrishForce (talk) 12:20, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
- There's still three and a half months to go before that deadline, it's way too early to call Miraheze finished given its prominence/popularity. Pages here don't need to be updated unless and until Miraheze actually closes. 「ディノ奴千?!」☎ Dinoguy1000 17:56, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
- Miraheze has been part of the community for around eight years. Although I never participated there, I am sad to see this happening. We share some common goals as free educational resources and MediaWiki users. The situation seems to be evolving and hopefully something can be worked out.
- To GrishForce's point though, I've always thought it was a bad idea to mention specific wiki farms in our documentation, because it comes off as a MediaWiki endorsement of these large organizations at the expense of small, independent wikis. Flounder ceo (talk) 13:39, 19 June 2023 (UTC)
- https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Miraheze_is_Not_Shutting_Down I've gotten this info about Miraheze's closure. So maybe documentation doesn't need to be updated if this succeeds. Still, the mentions in the documentation should be limited to the notice <This extension/skin is used in these wiki farms:> and not placed in the main body of the documentation. GrishForce (talk) 17:35, 19 June 2023 (UTC)
- I've gotten news from Miraheze's Discord. Miraheze's shutdown was called off. We don't need to update any pages here regarding them. GrishForce (talk) 11:23, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
AbuseFilter unexpected disallow editing

Translations:Template:Main page/20/zh
To make language conversion work, we expect == {{LC zh|C|zh-hans=...|zh-hant=...}} == in the translation.
However, it identified the equal sign INSIDE the template as mismatched header, which shouldn't happen, especially when the equal sign is not at the beginning / at the end of the translation.
Please fix the AbuseFilter filter rule or help fix the translation.
Thanks 122.100.75.52 (talk) 20:44, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
- I've updated the filter for this scenario. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 08:53, 17 June 2023 (UTC)

IP test edits
[edit]I've lately been seeing a lot of IPs making test edits to topics, e.g. here. This is annoying as it generates unneeded notifications. Are there any more general steps we could take to reduce the disruption? Sdkb talk 20:14, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
- editing topic summary in particular? I think it should be restricted only to registered users Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 08:56, 26 June 2023 (UTC)
- Editing topics is already restricted (phab:T328097), maybe same can be done for the topic summary field. However, most of the edits in that link are actually post comments not summary. There's really not much that can be done beyond the current manual patrol and deletion (since the page cannot disallow IP editing for other reasons) – Ammarpad (talk) 10:04, 27 June 2023 (UTC)
Formatting HTML tag : Deleted (shortcut)
[edit]The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Hello,
I would like to know of there is a shortcut to had "Deleted" HTML tag ?
ex : <s>Strike-through</s>
Thanks for yours advises SAPA bdc (talk) 06:27, 26 June 2023 (UTC)
- If you mean a wikitext shortcut, akin to e.g.
''italic'', the answer is no. - Also, please note that
<s></s>does not indicate deleted text; it only adds a line through the marked up text and has no semantic meaning beyond that. To semantically indicate that some text is deleted, you must instead use<del></del>. 「ディノ奴千?!」☎ Dinoguy1000 08:43, 26 June 2023 (UTC)
Migration to Mediawiki-on-Kubernetes
[edit]The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Hello all,
I am part of the WMF's SRE team, and tomorrow Thursday, June 29th, 10:00AM UTC I'll be migrating mediawiki.org to our Mediawiki-on-Kubernetes infrastructure.
If you experience issues after this migration, please reach out to us on the public #wikimedia-sre channel on IRC (instructions for joining here, my nick there is claime), on wikitech-l@lists.wikimedia.org, or on Phabricator with a subtask to phab:T337490
All of the SRE team has been made aware and provided with a rollback procedure in case of issues.
Thanks for your understanding. CGoubert-WMF (talk) 09:39, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- Is there some page or task that gives some details on the motivations behind this move? I looked around a bit on WikiTech and Phabricator, but nothing jumped out at me (e.g. phab:T290536 proposes some migration plans, with discussion related to that, but from what I saw the actual motivations aren't ever touched on there). 「ディノ奴千?!」☎ Dinoguy1000 09:48, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hi,
- Yes, there is. It's one of the contributing factors to achieving the Medium Term plan, specifically, the part named "Platform Evolution". See https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_Medium-term_plan_2019/Platform_evolution, more specifically Outcome 2.
- That's for the motivation part at least, for deep technical details, the task you linked is the best point to start. Hope this helps AKosiaris (WMF) (talk) 10:49, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- Ooh, thanks! 「ディノ奴千?!」☎ Dinoguy1000 23:23, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- The migration is now done, please do not hesitate to report any issue on the public #wikimedia-sre channel on IRC (instructions for joining here, my nick there is claime), on wikitech-l@lists.wikimedia.org, or on Phabricator with a subtask to phab:T337490
- Cheers! CGoubert-WMF (talk) 10:30, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
Announcing the new Elections Committee members
[edit]
Hello there,
We are glad to announce the new members and advisors of the Elections Committee. The Elections Committee assists with the design and implementation of the process to select Community- and Affiliate-Selected trustees for the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees. After an open nomination process, the strongest candidates spoke with the Board and four candidates were asked to join the Elections Committee. Four other candidates were asked to participate as advisors.
Thank you to all the community members who submitted their names for consideration. We look forward to working with the Elections Committee in the near future.
On behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees,

WDQS Manual: cannot update 1 URL in Section "Federated SPARQL queries"
[edit]In https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikidata_Query_Service/User_Manual, the [Section about Federated SPARQL Queries](https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Wikidata_Query_Service/User_Manual&action=edit§ion=16) contains links to foreign sites. By definition, federated links are external.
I cannot update a certain link , I need to change
BIND(uri(concat("http://data.cervantesvirtual.com/person/", ?id)) as ?bvmcID)
to
BIND(uri(concat("https://data.cervantesvirtual.com/person/", ?id)) as ?bvmcID)
to make the query work again Driller001 (talk) 11:25, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
Done * Pppery * it has begun 12:58, 29 June 2023 (UTC)- Changing an existing HTTP URL to HTTPS is a trivial change and quite unlikely to be a spam attempt. Couldn’t the abuse filter (I assume Driller001 was stopped by the abuse filter) be changed to allow such edits? Tacsipacsi (talk) 13:19, 1 July 2023 (UTC)
