"Yoshi's Song"[1][2] is a musical theme composed by Kazumi Totaka for Yoshi's Story, where it plays in the levels Treasure Hunt and Surprise!!, as well as the Practice stage and the aboveground portions of Bone Dragon Pit. This theme is often paired in later arrangements with "Yoshi's Story!" from the same game. This theme is often used as a leitmotif for Yoshi in subsequent games and other media in the Super Mario franchise, often playing during scenes involving Yoshi or at locations associated with and/or named after him.

Yoshi's Story[edit]

Yoshi's Story marks the first appearance of "Yoshi's Song". The game also features fourteen additional arrangements of the theme, all of which are also arranged by Kazumi Totaka:

  • A bossa nova arrangement of "Yoshi's Song" plays in the levels Rail Lift, Cloud Cruising, and Shy Guy's Ship; the Special Delivery section of Surprise!!; the aboveground portions of Blargg's Boiler, Lots O'Jelly Fish, and Lots O'Fish; and the sky portion of Shy Guy Limbo. It is titled "Yoshis on the Beach" in the Nintendo Music app.
  • An arrangement of "Yoshi's Song" plays in the levels Bone Dragon Pit and Blargg's Boiler, as well as the underground portions of Poochy & Nippy, Jungle Puddle, and Lots O'Fish. It is titled "Yoshi Curry" in the Nintendo Music app.
  • An arrangement of "Yoshi's Song" plays in the levels Jelly Pipe, Torrential Maze, and Piranha Grove. It is titled "Yo-Yo-Yoshi!" in the Nintendo Music app.
  • An arrangement of "Yoshi's Song" plays in the level The Tall Tower. It is titled "Yoshis and the Wind" in the Nintendo Music app.
  • An arrangement of "Yoshi's Song" plays in the interior portion of Tower Climb. It is titled "Steal Into the Tall Tower" in the Nintendo Music app.

  • A short arrangement of "Yoshi's Song" plays in the Spider hut in Jungle Hut. It is titled "Dub Master Spider" in the Nintendo Music app.
  • A brief arrangement of "Yoshi's Song" plays when the player eats 30 fruits in a level to complete it. It is titled "30 Fruit!" in the Nintendo Music app.

In Super Smash Bros., a medley arrangement of "Yoshi's Song" and "Yoshi's Story!" arranged by Hirokazu Ando and in the key of E-flat major plays in the Yoshi's Island stage. Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

The Nintendo 64 version of Mario Tennis features two arrangements of "Yoshi's Song".

An arrangement of "Yoshi's Song" plays in the Baby Mario & Yoshi Court, the Birdo & Yoshi Court, and the Yoshi Court. It is titled 「ベビィマリオ＆ヨッシーコート」 (Bebī Mario & Yosshī Kōto, "Baby Mario & Yoshi Court") in the official Mario Tennis 64 Original Soundtrack album.

A brief arrangement of "Yoshi's Song" plays during Yoshi's trophy award cutscene. It is titled 「トロフィー 授与 ヨッシー」 (Torofī Juyo - Yosshī, "Trophy Award - Yoshi") in the Mario Tennis 64 Original Soundtrack album.

In Yoshi's Crafted World, the theme that plays on the title screen, titled "Title Screen" in the Nintendo Music app and "Title" in the game's sound test, features an arrangement of part of the theme's B section.

The theme that plays in the game's map screen is an arrangement of "Title Screen", and gradually gains more instrumentation as the player progresses through the game, much like "Map Screen" from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. The various versions of the theme are titled "World Map 1", "World Map 2", "World Map 3", "World Map 4", and "World Map 5" in the Nintendo Music app, while the game's sound test features only the final version under the name "World Map".

Mario Kart World[edit]

Mario Kart World features two arrangements of "Yoshi's Song".

A danzón-mambo arrangement of "Yoshi's Song" can play exclusively in Free Roam during the day. It is titled "Yoshi's Song (Latin) (Yoshi's Story)" in the Nintendo Music app and "Yoshi's Song (Latin Ver.)" in the game's pause menu.

As with the Latin version, a bossa nova arrangement of "Yoshi's Song" that takes elements from "Yoshis on the Beach" can play exclusively in Free Roam during the day. It is titled "Yoshi's Song (Bossa Nova) (Yoshi's Story)" in the Nintendo Music app and "Yoshi's Song (Bossa Nova Ver.)" in the game's pause menu. This arrangement was also featured in the Mario Kart World Direct, where it plays during the section revealing the Dash Food item and how it can be used to unlock character outfits.

At the Super Nintendo World theme park, an arrangement of "Yoshi's Song" plays in the boarding area for Yoshi's Adventure in the Universal Studios Japan and Universal Epic Universe parks, and in the Yoshi-themed section of the queue for Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge in the Universal Studios Hollywood park.

  • The Japanese name of "Yoshi Games", 「ペリキン・ヨッシー・アスレチック」 ("Perrey-Kingsley Yoshi Athletic"), refers to the electronic music duo Perrey and Kingsley, who were known for their work with the Moog synthesizer in the mid-1960s. The piece is written in pastiche of Perrey and Kingsley's musical style.
  • The beginning of the main melody of "Yarn Yoshi Takes Shape!" from Yoshi's Woolly World echoes a sequence of four notes from "Yoshi's Song", specifically the four notes that occur at the start of the latter's third phrase.
