Spider Jockey

Spider Jockey

The Spider Jockey is a very dangerous and very rare mob within Minecraft. What makes it so strange, and so dangerous, is that it is a combination of a Spider and all its capabilities with a skeleton and its own abilities. It is shown as a skeleton riding on the back of a spider.

Though they appear as one mob, the Spider Jockey is actually two entities; the skeleton and the spider. As such, it is possible to kill the spider only to be continued to be chased by the skeleton, or vise versa. They have only a 1% chance to spawn. It is still a very glitchy mob. Some times the skeleton will suffocate in walls while the spider climbs a wall.

Loot

The main drops of Spider Jockeys are string, bones and arrows, a combination of all drops from the Spider and the Skeleton. When each entity is dropped, it'll drop the loot it normally does individually. The Skeleton can drop up to two bones and/or two arrows. The spider can drop up to two string and/or one spider eye.

Fighting Capabilities

They are very dangerous with the agility and climbing ability of the spider combined with the ranged attacks of the Skeleton making it into a quite formidable enemy. Due to it's climbing ability and ability to spawn underground, it can often kill the skeleton through suffocation. The spider will climb up a wall to the ceiling and the skeleton will suffocate in the ceiling block.

HealthSkeleton = 10 Hearts, Spider = 10 Hearts

Damage; Skeleton; Easy = 1 Heart, Normal = 2.5 Hearts, Hard = 3.5 Hearts Spider; 1.5 Hearts upon contact

Dealing with Spider Jockeys

Even in the best of positions, with good armour and weapons, Spider Jockeys are still quite deadly. Sometimes the best course of action is fleeing, because it will be easier to get the loot by killing the mobs separately.. However, it is possible to reduce the threat by attacking the Skeleton, taking care to not hit the spider, from a distance with a bow and arrow. In this way, it is possible to kill the skeleton without having the spider chase you, however it requires you still to dodge the arrows of the skeleton itself.
