Dynamite Slugger

Baseball Stars was only the beginning. Check out the next stickball game on the NeoGeo Pocket Color.

This game has been cancelled for US release (as have all NeoGeo Pocket Color games, due to SNK USA closing its offices). If you don't mind the Japanese, you may be able to find this at an import dealer. Otherwise, please enjoy this preview, and consider what might have been...
ADK, the team responsible for developing Baseball Stars Color on the NeoGeo Pocket Color, is getting down and dirty with their next baseball game for the system. Titled Dynamite Slugger, this game will take the sport internationally instead of keeping it in the NeoGeo's home country of Japan.

Features:

  • Twelve countries
  • Exhibition and Pennant Race modes
  • Link-cable support for two players
  • Only for NeoGeo Pocket Color
In Dynamite Slugger, you'll have your choice of twelve international teams to take through the pennant race. There will be multiple stadiums to play in, but you'll have to keep track of the wind ¿ if it's blowing in from the left field, forget about nailing the dingers over the fence...unless, of course, you've got the power hitter up to bat.

What's more, it looks like Dynamite Slugger will have a player and team creation mode ¿ this was arguably the worst omission in Baseball Stars Color ¿ the NES version of Baseball Stars had the best character and team creation modes in a sports game, and made the game just so much fun to play around with. Let's just hope that ADK puts this mode into Dynamite Slugger, because I'm ready to build a team from scratch.

Dynamite Slugger will be released in Japan at the end of May, and just a few weeks later in the States. We'll get our first look at the game at the Electronic Entertainment Exposition in a week, where we'll have first impressions.
