MapQuest, a US-based company that offers Internet, mobile, and business solutions, has announced launch of a free
MapQuest for Android app for Android phone users.
As per the agreement,
MapQuest will use the company's data in both its Internet and mobile applications, will have access to all 73 countries in the NAVTEQ map database, besides future country releases.
MapQuest said the new API option within its Advantage API allows developers to build rich applications with Adobe Flex or Adobe Flash software, using a true, native API for ActionScript.
Both imaging entities have deals with
MapQuest.com, a wholly owned subsidiary of Dulles, Va.--based America Online.
The site also features a
Mapquest map of the area--a nice touch for visitors and new parents--as well as a page of educational links, a recap of an education conference and information about the school's homework hotline.
"For example, companies like
Mapquest could use netECHO Business to make driving directions, traffic reports, directory listings and travel guide information available by phone; or companies like Charles Schwab could use netECHO business to allow immediate and secure phone access to all their Web content," said Kennedy.
Mapquest (www.mapquest.com) plots routes across most of Europe and the States, and can also find places for you to eat, drink, be merry and kip.
Other Sprint PCS wireless Web content providers include
MapQuest .com, Amazon.com, Bloomberg.com, CNN.com, Yahoo!
NeoPoint has teamed up with leading companies including GetThere.com, Intelligent Information Incorporated, InfoSpace.com,
MapQuest.com, MasterCard International, Navigation Technologies, onebox.com, RadioDigest.com, and TVData to conveniently provide users with information and services when and where they want them.
Although largely overshadowed by the debut of Goldman stock - of which 69 million shares were sold at $53, making the $3.66bn sale the second-largest in US history - shares in
MapQuest.com Inc and FlyCast Communications Corp each showed strong gains in their opening sessions.
US hotel booking site priceline.com's (NASDAQ: PCLN) Priceline Partner Network private-label distribution unit said it has partnered with AOL Inc's (NYSE: AOL)
MapQuest travel unit to power its newly-launched feature to book travel.
