Statistics from the
Jane Goodall Institute UK showed that during a 12-month period, 15,000 carcasses passed through the markets of Brazzaville in the Congo, of which 293 were chimpanzees.
But new primate research (including
Jane Goodall's findings) shows that chimps do the same.
Now on a visit to the United Arab Emirates to acknowledge outstanding students' work to preserve the environment, Goodall said she never dreamt that a humble programme started in 1991 called
Jane Goodall's Roots and Shoots would evolve into a planet-wide youth effort.
50 Years of Chimps and Change is co-presented by the Royal Ontario Museum and the
Jane Goodall Institute of Canada in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and the Centre for Environment, University of Toronto, as part of the ROM's Slice of Life: Biodiversity Lecture Series.
Other patrons include Jonathan Porritt, chairman of the UK Sustainable Development Commission, and Dame
Jane Goodall, founder of the
Jane Goodall institute.
Others are Donna Shirley, inventor of the Mars Rover robot;
Jane Goodall, who did invaluable research among chimpanzees; Mary Anning, who as a young girl found the first complete plesiosaurus ever found, which led her to become a paleontologist; and Sue Hendrickson, finder of the most complete set of Tyrannosaurus Rex bones ever--amazingly enough, in South Dakota.
"We have a choice to use the gift of our lives to make the world a better place."

Jane Goodall, and illustrate the way chimpanzee families actually communicate with each omen The issues that chimp Okomi faces--sibling rivalry, tantrums and exploration--parallel social stages that human children experience.
"I'll be pleased with all the agreements, if they actually go into practice," remarks primatologist
