Rush – Presto

Tremendous RUSH CD. Production os pristine and songs are well written progressive.

From the liner notes; “Side I is much longer than Side II, therefore is not as loud. So turn it up!”
This is a Masterdisk DMM cut by Robert Ludwig and sounds amazing! Crystal clear detail in the midrange and powerful on the low end. Nice and crunchy on the top. The fidelity is punchy and intense and breathes life into the songs making them come alive, unlike my SACD which sounds thin and mercurial. This is a brilliant pressing. So turn it up! Thoroughly disappointed with this album. I've had different versions (LP, CD) for years and have never found any version to be satisfactory. All have been rather dull, quiet, and lacking in any dynamics. Just picked up a used copy of this 2015 200gm vinyl version, and, sure enough, it sounds just as lackluster. No bass, no punch. I had to check the settings on my amp and sub to make sure everything was working properly. No issues on my end. I'm convinced it's the way this album was mixed/mastered. Is this a known issue? Is my hearing going?

Don’t have an original to compare to, but this sounded excellent to me. Dead quiet, very clear, all the instruments are well separated. For what it’s worth, before I found this 200 gram version still sealed in my local shop, I had the 2025 SYEOR reissue on GZ media (Canada) which I only just opened after listening to this one. It was utterly terrible right out of the package. Same mastering but the record was so full of surface noise, pops, cracks, even skips, I was utterly shocked at how bad it was and so glad I got the 2015. If you can track these 200gram releases by Quality Records down it’s well worth it. Too bad the later Rush albums of the 2015 run are so expensive now.

Why didn't Keven Gray fix the sound of this album? It's just awful sounding. The original CD is bright and thin. This one sounds blurred and boring. Avoid. Go find a copy in the dollar bin and just turn down the treble a bit.

Nice songs. Sound is pretty terrible. Wonder if the remaster sounds better.

Far, far, far, far better sounding than the Rhino reissue which came out in 2025. Still a bit on the thin side, but you're better off with this than that abomination.

My main complain is that it sounds "thin", you really have to raise the volume up a lot...
I wonder if spreading it into two vinyl would have helped.

There Is too much music on this LP for just one album needs to be a double LP.

Finally getting this album at a normal price makes me so happy! I only had the cassette long ago and it's been years since I've heard it, so I can't compare quality to original pressings. However, my copy had only a little surface noise on side one on a couple songs. Nothing as bad as others are reporting. I clean all my records and run a microfiber brush before playing. I gave this 4 stars because it should have been a double LP. Side one has too much music on it and therefore is much quieter (check the notes about this on the inner sleeve). Also, no poly sleeve in 2025 is criminal. As I said, super happy to have this record finally, but those few issues keep this from being 5 stars for me.
