this photo is worth owning the 7" alone, it's absolutely stunning (and I never buy picture discs as art). this is gorgeous.

God (The Dharma Kayã Mix) is a nostalgic (in a non-rose-tinted, unpatronizing way) slice of 90's style 'Trip-Hop'. trancey, downtempo breakbeat with a real presence. The Carl Craig remixes add a nice nuance to this original single that carry the vocals in a much more stripped down but effective way. An enjoyable single that delivers more than just the usual generic standard dance remixes. I never thought I'd say this as a vinyl lover, but I do miss picking up convenient little CD singles, that often had surprisingly decent remixes and a bit of artwork to sit on the coffee table or on the seat of the car.

Several nice variants of the original single. What's especially interesting here is that each selection treats the listener to unique time signatures and instrumentation without sounding redundant. The mixes are expertly handled by Kevin Killen. Listen to this CD with headphones to capture the nuances of each selection. Even if you are not familiar with Tori's mainstream material, I suggest adding this CD to your collection.

i remember hearing a 4/4 house rework of this track much more danceable then any of the carl craig mixes.. im thinking it was a whitelabel unofficial remix from the uk.. anyone know what im talking about? i heard it on FREEK FM by dj EZ or Operator so it appealed to the same uk garage / todd edwards type crowd very much..

The Dharma Kayã Mix is one of the most beautiful reinterpretations of a song I've ever heard. It takes 'God' on a wonderful dream-like voyage into the clouds and beyond, slowly collecting the briefest of vocal textures, piano refrains and rolling drums, building them into a lazy funked-up assemble of heavenly noise.

Tori Amos meets God meets Carl Craig. A match made in heaven? The Joy also put in their piece of divinity, a spaced-out ambient track that grows into a funk workout. When Carl Craig takes the reins for “The Rainforest Resort Mix,” he drops in a mid-tempo house kick drum and slows the vocals down until to a husky growl. It’s not until the halfway point that the Detroitian synths come in. In his “Thinking Mix 2,” he keeps the vocals intact, but both mixes opt more for minimalism, rather than full sounds. While the mixes overall don’t reach heaven, you can still dance in purgatory.
