With video game adaptations having quietly taken over Hollywood in recent years, demand for more series like the League of Legends series remains high, and there is no shortage of IPs ripe for this treatment. One such case is Overwatch, a gaming franchise that was once promised its own animated series, only to see its development crumble not long after. With some huge worldbuilding and filled with lore behind its battle arena and first-person shooter gameplay, Overwatch also has a huge and deeply loyal following. Just a few weeks ago, Netflix dropped all seven episodes in the second season of its live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender adaptation, but after drawing mixed reviews and losing over 50% of its viewership from Season 1, it’s safe to say the launch didn’t go as planned. Coming up next on the schedule for ATLA is the animated sequel film, Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, which is now releasing on July 25 after previously being slated to drop in October. This push is due to the entire film leaking online earlier this year, and while Paramount worked swiftly to plug the leak, it’s estimated that millions of people already saw the film.
