CGD develops a critically needed understanding of the Earth System both as a coupled system and within each of its components: atmosphere, ocean, land, and ice (sea and land). The lab plays a key role as a leader of community-developed and community-owned models and the tools that are used to analyze and validate their accuracy against well-curated observational datasets.
Our work supports improved planning and responses to high-impact weather events, estimates of food production sustainability, effective management of water resources, and numerous other endeavours worth billions of dollars to the economy and essential for our national security.
Research Sections
Our scientists pursue research as part of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and are broken up into focused sections.
Our Work
Our research focuses to increase our understanding of atmospheric and Earth system variability through parallel development and analysis of observational, assimilated, model-generated and model-forcing dataset
