WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #113 by Kevin Eastman, Tom Waltz, Sophie Campbell, Ronda Pattsion, and Shawn Lee, on sale now.

Life in Mutant Town is complicated enough between the political unrest and continued interference of the Foot Clan, but the future is going to get much worse for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles unless they take action now. Thankfully, they've been given a heads up about the dire situation that lies ahead from one of their youngest students. Little turtle Lita is all grown up, and she's traveled through time to bring them warnings of what is to come. She's also proven herself less than tactful when it comes to talking about the future and may have just revealed a shocking love story that hasn't even properly begun.

Mikey misses the evening's training session at the dojo, apologizing for being so late when he walks in. He isn't the only one who lost track of time, though, and the adult Lita comes running into the room nearly out of breath. After confirming that this is, in fact, their grown-up student, they listen as she describes the horrific future that she has come to try and prevent, one where all of New York City has been transformed into mutants, and where the Splinter Clan has broken up and died out following a devastating personal attack at the hands of the Foot Clan. Everything seems to be centered around the death of Karai, who Lita knows has just been caught in a helicopter crash, and so the Turtles head off to rescue their longtime nemesis.

The Turtles arrive at the scene of the crash where they find Karai and her henchmen buried in the wreckage. Leonardo pulls Koya free while Donatello attends to Bludgeon, and Mikey finally finds Karai near the remains of the cockpit. Back at the dojo, the Splinter Clan gets their enemies' wounds bandaged up, and Lita offers some heartfelt reassurance to "Auntie Koya," which catches everyone off guard. Koya demands to know what she's talking about, to which Lita explains that, to her, Koya dating Leonardo in the future makes her an aunt of sorts to the young mutant.

Koya is incensed by what Lita has said, and demands Leonardo get the younger turtle away from her. Leo, looking more than a little embarrassed, reminds Lita that divulging things that haven't happened yet is a bad idea in general. Even still, the idea that Leo and Koya could end up together is shocking for more than a few good reasons.

Koya's life began simply enough as the Shredder's pet falcon, often being relied on for reconnaissance missions. During the events of 2013's City Fall storyline, Koya disappeared, only to return a year later having been transformed into the powerful mutant she is now. Koya's personal hatred for Leonardo began when she attacked the home of April O'Neil's parents where the Turtles had gone to get away from all the chaos in their lives. Koya's assault was ended when Leonardo ruptured her aorta, nearly killing her. The two would come to blows during the ritualistic Gauntlet, wherein Leo cut Koya's wing feathers, taking away her ability to fly permanently. Though Koya's flight would later be restored through mystical means, these two grievous injuries both suffered at Leonardo's hand left the villainous raptor in a rage, and she once again confronted him in Northampton.

This time, Leo was repentant, and sincerely apologized for the life-altering pain that he had inflicted upon her. Koya wasn't able to kill such a sympathetic enemy at the time, and now it seems like she never will, assuming what Lita had to say was true. With any luck, the Turtles will get to find out without the world falling apart around them.
