At the core of the Marvel Universe are mutants: an evolved offshoot of humans whose profound and ever-enduring existence has continuously reshaped the cosmos. Over the years, X-Men's strongest mutants are identified as "omega-level," a classification that distinguishes the species' true powerhouses.
As is the norm for many long-running comic series, this term was quickly overused, leading to general confusion about which traits caused a person to be considered Omega. Johnathan Hickman's 2019 House of X/Powers of X (HOX/POX) reboot clarified this term, introducing readers to mutants with infinite potential.
Pestilence Wields Disease Itself as a Weapon
Pestilence was one of the First Horsemen of the Apocalypse and a resident of Okarra before it was split into Krakoa and Arrako. She was locked away in the daemon-infested dimension of Amenth for thousands of years with the rest of her siblings and her mother, Genesis. She takes after her mother Genesis' omega-level powers and has her father Apocalypse's knack for commanding vast armies, making her a tactically and politically potent threat.
Pestilence uses a bow to fire poisoned arrows that then infect the victims with virulent diseases, making her a deadly foe. None of Apocalypse's copycat Pestilences could match her sheer power, though she was overcome and killed by her brother Death. This ancient omega-level mutant played a huge role in the history of mutantkind. It was a potent force in its current events, making her a perfect start to our list of the most powerful omega-level mutants.
Famine Uses Hydrokinesis to Deadly Effect
Famine is another of the First Horsemen of the Apocalypse and trained as a warrior battling the daemons of Amenth for thousands of years with the rest of his banished siblings. Famine's omega-level powers let him create cutting blades and tidal waves by shaping water to his will and draining all moisture out of an opponent, killing them instantly through dehydration and desiccation.
Apocalypse's children have incredible longevity, and all that time to train makes Famine a master of his abilities. While even the combined might of War, Famine, and Genesis could not overcome Storm's incredible strength, Famine's omega-level powers are not to be dismissed. They could easily overwhelm most regular mutants.
War Is a Master Pyrokineticist
War is another of the First Horsemen of the Apocalypse and a mighty warrior. War's omega-level powers allow her to create fires she can channel into her weapons. She can even create body parts of flame, such as when Wolverine cut off her hand. Her backstory is more complicated than that of her siblings due to her family history: her son, Summoner, was instrumental in the events that led to the return of the First Horsemen to Earth, and she maintains a steady hatred of the mutant Solem for killing her husband.
War was instrumental to the events of X Of Swords. Her martial might gave Arrako a sizable advantage in the tournament, and her sword, Vermillion, further enhanced her pyrokinetic abilities. This deadly warrior has no limit to her flame powers, making her an omega-level threat to her opponents.
Elixir Controls Life and Death Itself
Joshua Foley is a powerful healer and a former member of the New Mutants. As Elixir, he has complete control over the body's biological structure. He can instantly regenerate his own body and recover quickly from injury. That power also extends to others, and he can cure friends and allies of injury and disease with a simple touch.
However, Elixir's powers developed even more over the years. He discovered he could also inflict disease and death upon his enemies. His skin was usually covered in a golden metallic coating, but it turned black whenever he used his powers to kill. Elixir can resurrect himself, and his powers are essential to the Krakoan Resurrection Protocols.
Tarn the Uncaring's Bio-Manipulation Made Him a Dangerous Foe

Tarn the Uncaring was a member of the Great Circle when Arakko was under the control of Amenth. Tarn was born from the forced breeding of an Okkaran mutant and an Amenthi Daemon. Neither side accepted Okkaran/Daemon hybrids like him, and Tarn's powers made him a god among his fellow mutants. He formed the Locus Vile, a group of these hybrid mutants, and they became the most feared force on Arakko.
Tarn's powers combined his mutant skills and sorcery to master manipulating the bodies of mutants. He had mental control over DNA and could remove someone's powers, enhance them, give mutants new powers, reshape living bodies, and reverse or accelerate again. Tarn's powers allowed him to take mutants and make them into whatever he wanted them to be, making him a very dangerous combatant.

☘️Thor
🕷️Spider-Man
⚡ IRON MAN
Brilliant, driven, and uncompromising in your ambition. You believe that the right technology — in the right hands — can solve any problem, and you’re confident enough in your own abilities to back that up. Beneath the armor and the bravado, you carry the weight of responsibility deeply. When it truly matters, you’re willing to sacrifice everything.
🛡️ CAPTAIN AMERICA
Principled, courageous, and steadfast. You have an unshakeable sense of right and wrong, and no amount of pressure, politics, or power can make you compromise it. People trust you instinctively — not because you demand it, but because you’ve earned it. You lead not by authority but by example, and you will always get back up.
🗡️ BLACK WIDOW
Strategic, precise, and formidably self-reliant. You don’t need a suit or a superpower — your greatest weapon is your mind and your nerve. You keep your cards close, trust slowly, and operate three steps ahead of everyone else. Your past is complicated, but you’ve turned it into something that makes you nearly impossible to stop.
☘️ THOR
Powerful, honorable, and ultimately humbled by what truly matters. You came into your power believing it was your birthright — and then you learned it had to be earned. Your strength is immense, but your greatest growth came from learning to serve rather than reign. Loyal to your people, terrifying to your enemies, and always magnificent.
🕷️ SPIDER-MAN
Quick-witted, deeply compassionate, and driven by a responsibility you didn’t ask for. You’ve learned the hard way that great power comes with great cost — and you show up anyway. You stay grounded when others would ascend, and your humanity is your greatest strength. You make it look effortless. It never is.
Genesis Didn't Use Her Powers Much, but They're Extremely Useful
Genesis was born millennia ago on Okkara, the mutant continent that would give birth to Arakko and Krakoa. Genesis met Apocalypse when he came to Okkara, and the two hit it off. Genesis was way more into survival of the fittest than Apocalypse, and her example transformed him into the mutant he would become. Genesis proved to be an extremely formidable opponent against the demon hordes of Amenth, and her return as a Champion of Arakko and her later attack on Planet Arakko showed her to be a powerful mutant.
Genesis didn't use her powers much, but they were omega-level and extremely powerful. Genesis is chlorokinetic, which gives her complete control over plant life. Genesis's control of flora was so advanced that she could spy on people by linking with their gut flora. Genesis's powers were considered so great that she was considered even more fit than Apocalypse.
Proteus's Powers Were Vast but Dangerous
Kevin MacTaggert is a powerful omega-level mutant and the son of Moira X. Proteus can manipulate the surrounding energy at will to warp reality. He is composed of pure psionic power, which burned out his original human form. Kevin developed the need to possess a human body to survive, which only increased his power.
Unfortunately, Kevin's host bodies burned out quickly, especially when he used his reality-warping gifts. He jumped between victims, leaving destruction behind in his wake in his earliest appearances. The Krakoan Resurrection Protocols gave Proteus a new lease on life. His powers not only help bring other mutants back, but he also has an unending supply of blank mutant bodies.
Death Takes After His Father
Death, the strongest of Apocalypse's children, is another of the First Horsemen. His omega-level powers are also the most gruesome of the ancient mutant warrior team: his stare can unleash a corrosive mist that disintegrates those in it to ash. This death stare is so powerful that even Death's enhanced longevity can be harmed by it, as shown when Storm was able to reflect it during their fight in Sevalith. Death can also sense the spark of life in other living beings.
Death has the enhanced vitality of all of his family, even surviving a crowd of vampires feasting upon his wounded form with little long-term repercussions. He has his father's knack for ruthlessness, killing his sister Pestilence when she angered him. He also shows more independence than his siblings, betraying his mother, Genesis, and joining Storm and his father to end the Arakkii civil war. With his deadly powers and ruthless ambition, Death poses a powerful threat to anything he sets his sights upon.
Iceman's Powers Grew to Amazing Heights
One of the original X-Men, Bobby Drake’s cyrokinetic powers have gradually developed over time. Iceman has quietly become one of the X-Men's most powerful omega-level mutants. He can manipulate the temperature around him and freeze the air’s water vapor to create shields and weapons. He can also transmute his entire body into living ice.
Over the years, Iceman's control over his abilities has become so precise that he can manipulate water and ice on a molecular level. He can even create icy clones of himself and extend his consciousness into snow and ice on the ground. Iceman's omega-level abilities make him almost unkillable, as he can reform his body entirely from ice if shattered.
Vulcan's Powers Allowed Him to Take Over the Shi'Ar Empire
Vulcan inherited the same energy absorption abilities as his long-lost brothers, Cyclops and Havok. Gabriel Summers can psionically manipulate any kind of energy, which he can absorb and re-channel to create devastating blasts, protective force fields, or even propel himself in flight. Gabriel's traumatic life and death are one of the X-Men's darkest secrets.
As Vulcan, he can manipulate other mutants’ abilities and steal or suppress their powers. The powerful Summers brother could take control of the Shi’ar Empire and seize the throne with his incredible abilities. Vulcan has stood up to other incredibly powerful beings, like Black Bolt and his own brothers, but his rage sometimes gets the better of him.
