The End of Caronia's Uniqueness
For 13yrs Caronia had been unique in carrying her trademark green livery. With the tremendous fall in the number of transatlantic passengers, other ships in the Cunard fleet would soon be diverted from the “cattle run” in attempts to earn their keep by cruising.
In this year, Cunard Cruising Green has also been applied to the RMS Mauretania, Caronia's slightly bigger and equally popular sister ship. This livery change was soon to be applied to two other ships taken off the Liverpool to Canada service and renamed as RMS Franconia and RMS Carmania.

Nevertheless, the future of transatlantic travel will be by jet airliner where journey times across the Atlantic will be cut from 6 days to 6 hours! In recent years aviation had not only become far more comfortable but also much safer and cheaper. So, no contest really… The real question would be “Would the future be in cruising?” as Cunard clearly hoped!
