The Caronia at Hamburg

Caronia at Hamburg
[Postcard: Bödecker Hamburg]

This undated postcard showing the Caronia at Hamburg is actually quite interesting. Despite it being in monochrome, closer inspection of the enlarged image will help to reveal the demarcation between the three main shades of green applied to the ship. The fourth shade was always the 12inch wide “cheat line” applied between the two darker shades of green on the hull.

If you look closely, you will see that the front of the bridgehouse is in a lighter shade than the Promenade and Main deck fronts below it. I would date the postcard in a period between July 1958 at earliest and July 1964 at latest.
