A Webmaster's Thanks!
Construction of this site has only been made possible by the willingness of people to make available material mostly created by Cunard's Publicity Department which, in those days, we disposed of without a second thought.
Since launching the Timeline on 08 January 2004, I have been quite overwhelmed at the response that it's generating, especially from visitors so willing to contribute information. This section lists their efforts in helping to build and complete this timeline, for which I extend a very hearty thank-you!
Another major initial source of chronological information has been David Hutchings’ excellent reference book “Caronia - Legacy of a Pretty Sister” - see bibliography on Resources page.
Due to the inexorable growth of the number of contributors, the previous single Acknowledgements page has now been extended into a section all of its own. I am always looking for information that either fills the gaps or extends the information provided here. If you'd like to help with providing any new information, I'd be delighted to hear from you!
Cunard Archive
All of the Cunard Archive has been placed into the public domain at the University of Liverpool. In 2015 they celebrated Cunard's 175th Anniversary by putting on the “Cunard 175 - A Voyage Through History” exhibition which is reprised here
Information Appeals
Relying only on the brochures printed by Cunard, Thos Cook or American Express can sometimes be a little misleading as far as chronological information is concerned. For example, I have a copy of the 1966 North Cape cruise brochure, due to depart from New York 01 July. However, due to the 1966 Merchant Seaman's Strike, Caronia languished 3 abreast at Berth 107 of the New Dock, Southampton until at least 02 July 1966. So, are you able to fill in the blank which that event throws up? More information appeals appear on the What's New page.
Webmaster Resources
All the Webmaster Resources that I've used in building and promoting the Caronia Timeline now feature on a separate resources page.
