I got to spend some time with Flying Lotus ahead of his show at Sydney Opera House for VIVID Festival. He's one of those creatives I've admired for years, so it was really lovely to sit down and reflect with him on the 20-year anniversary of his debut album 1983, his latest Big Mama EP, growing up with his grandmother Marilyn McLeod Ellison and great aunt Alice Coltrane and how they nurtured his love of music and film, his early collabs with artists like FKA Twigs and Thundercat, and how so many of the people he's brought together have gone on to become pillars of their own corners of music.
