Totenga is an enemy that debuted in Kirby's Return to Dream Land. Totenga resembles a pole-shaped cactus with large protruding spikes and a small orange head with a single eye on top, also covered in spikes. In its original appearance in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Totenga was unable to move, but it gained the ability to shuffle back and forth in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Their internal name, Togekuki, is based on the Japanese translation of "stem thorn".

Game appearances[edit]

Kirby's Return to Dream Land / Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]

Appearing in White Wafers

In Kirby's Return to Dream Land and its remake, Totenga is first found in the Raisin Ruins level, where it serves as an obstacle for Kirby and his companions in select areas. It cannot be inhaled at first, but attacking it with any non-direct methods will cause it to shrink in height. After enough damage, the cactus pole will have vanished entirely, leaving only the head which still stays in place. This can either be inhaled for the Needle ability, or simply dispatched.

In Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, Totenga's model is based off its appearance in Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land / Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World[edit]

Totenga returns in Kirby and the Forgotten Land and its Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, where it has gained the ability to move by sliding along the ground, trying to block Kirby's path. It may also move in fixed patterns back and forth or in circles. In addition, if a Totenga is reduced to its head and is not defeated within a few seconds, it will regrow its thorny body. In this game, Totenga has been redesigned to have a bigger eyeball. Totenga does not have a Crystal variant in the Star-Crossed World Starry Stages.
