Sammael (Old Tongue for Destroyer of Hope) is one of the Forsaken. He is an incredibly powerful channeler and was a general of the Age of Legends who is sworn to the Dark One.[1]

History[]

Sammael is a channeler who was born in the Age of Legends and rose to become a great general. At some point, he ascended to become one of the Chosen of the Dark One. He was sealed by Lews Therin Telamon (The Original Dragon) during the War of Power and before the Breaking of the World, also having been captured before the confrontation between Lews Therin and Ishamael.[1]

Season 2[]

Ishamael asks Lanfear why she thinks he woke her first before the other Chosen, and she mentions that "the boys couldn't execute a plan even if they were under Compulsion," referring to Sammael and the other male Chosen.[2]

Moghedien reveals to Lanfear that Ishamael freed the other Forsaken from their seals before his death. This would include Sammael.[1]

Season 3[]

Appearance[]

Sammael is a man of average height, with fair skin and eyes, and very short hair. His large scar across his face is undoubtedly his most prominent feature, and he keeps it with honor, wanting it to be the last thing the Dragon Reborn sees before dying. He is always seen wearing dark robes with white, bone-like details, and wields a large hammer for combat.

Abilities[]

Sammael is an incredibly powerful channeler with the One Power of the Age of Legends and became one of the feared Forsaken. While his position in the Forsaken hierarchy is uncertain, it is believed he is stronger than Moghedien, but not stronger than Rahvin, Lanfear, or Ishamael.

He possesses both strength and mastery in the Power, demonstrating the ability to weave and imbue the Power into weapons, as he did with his battle hammer, and easily use the Traveling weave, to transport wherever he wants in an instant, as he did when going to the meeting with Lanfear and Rahvin and when he launched a surprise attack on Rand al'Thor and his allies, transporting his warriors along with him in the Aiel Waste.

In his attack on the Aiel Waste, Sammael was able to knock down Egwene and withstand Aviendha's fiery spear attacks; however, even being so strong, he was still unable to handle Rand, having been defeated by the Dragon Reborn with a devastating lightning strike and rockfall.

Sammael was a general in his time, and claims that, in the peaceful times of his Age, he rediscovered the art of war, therefore he must possess great military and combat knowledge.

Like the other Forsaken, Sammael also received immortality after allying with the Dark One, as well as access to the True Power. He made use of the latter to heal the wound he sustained from Aviendha's spear. However, despite being known as "immortal," Moghedien demonstrated that it is possible for one Forsaken to kill another, as she did when she murdered Sammael.

I don't want to do this again. Not to you. The others will know you're coming.
