Unlike the most recent Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, Pokémon Legends: Z-A is a game that really holds your attention. The spiritual successor to Legends Arceus, it’s learned from the mistakes of the distant past and beautifully shows what city life is like in the Pokémon universe. I can see myself playing this for another hundred hours as I finish my Pokédex, shiny hunt and generally have a great time. This is easily the best Pokémon game on the market.
One of the best Pokemon games I've ever played, around 50 hours in and almost done with the post game story. And man it is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!
Newcombat is fun and really experimental, hoping they stick with this style for legends games going forward.
The new way to shiny hunt is piss easy, kinda defeats some excitement because they are so easy to automate, but I think it's fine, really not detrimental or anything.
Music and story are really amazing, there'sso many unique tracks for the charactersand battles, though it is weird there's no different basic battle music, which is fine cause the songs are good. For the story, any fan of XY are going to love this game, as they really made the most of being a direct sequel to those games.
Definitely a standout in performance for switch 2 as well. No issues whatsoever in that department.
Very solid 10/10 experience :) and a game will continue to play LONG after the story is over with.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is a bold step forward for the franchise, turning the traditional formula into a fast-paced action RPG. Its combat system is thrilling, strategic, and refreshingly different, while its return to Kalos brings nostalgic charm. However, its single-city setting, underwhelming visuals, and lack of voice acting keep it from true greatness. Still, Legends: Z-A captures the wonder and heart of Pokémon better than any recent entry. A strong evolution, even if not the final form.
Playing Pokemon Legends: Z-A just felt good. I enjoyed exploring the city, collecting side missions, and gathering clothes to craft my ideal outfit. Not every mechanic is a win, and some of the platforming elements of exploring the city felt a bit clunky, but it’s a game that had me wanting to come back for more. I appreciated having a bit more of a straightforward story than in games like Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, while still having plenty of side content to immerse myself in. The main story is a good length, and with all those side missions and hidden areas to explore, I can easily see myself sinking many more hours into Legends: Z-A even after the credits roll.
Where Legends: Arceus focused on collecting, Legends: Z-A does the same for the combat system. Complemented by a fantastic soundtrack and a wealth of customization options, you're completely free to choose your own path in Lumiose City. Except for the slow opening hours, where the story requires patience before you can truly explore Lumiose City to your heart's content.
Lumiose City could do with work, but Pokémon Legends: Z-A is a much more tightly focused - and delightfully goofy - return to better form. At least by modern Pokémon's standards.
the gameplay and story are both awesome, and i loved the new battle system at the za Royale. Altough graphics arent stunning, it was a very smooth and funny gameplay.
The story is decent and the battle system is amazing. But some of the side quests are pointless and lazy.another bad thing is that you have to play ranked to unlock evolution stones for certain pokemon and they should have added more pokemon in game. Finally they should have added more buildings to enter and explore for a so called city exploring game .
I don’t quite understand the hate for this game — it’s not a perfect product, but it absolutely doesn’t deserve scores like 0, 1, or 2. Graphically, it’s awful: there’s a total lack of detail, no store interiors, no street traffic, there’s only one car model and even that one doesn’t have round wheels but a bunch of triangles — that’s all true. The map is small and there’s not much to explore besides running from battles to catching Pokémon. But that doesn’t change the fact that on the Switch 2 it runs beautifully, maintaining a steady 60 fps at all times, the battle system is great, and the story is genuinely solid. The game is engaging and makes you want to come back. Climbing the ranks, nighttime runs through the battle zone — all of that works really well. It’s definitely a more intimate entry compared to the “mainline” Pokémon games, but it’s still a lot of fun. As long as the developers keep making games for the Switch 1, unfortunately all new titles will look this rough. Still, in my opinion, this game deserves a solid 7.
The graphics are a near step up from Scarlet and Violet. It feels small though, incredibly small. The plot is good, the call back to old characters is fun, the legends mechanics are great. However, I found it ultimately lacking. Some things just felt…empty. So many flat assets too. It could have been better.
The bar is set so low for Game Freak and yet every new release they manage to set it even lower.
The entire game is set inside a city, we end up seeing the same 3 reused assets over and over, how are the buildings just flat textures when the whole game is set INSIDE A CITY. The bare-minimum in story and performance. Gameplay was alright.
SummaryA new adventure awaits within Lumiose City, where an urban redevelopment plan is underway to shape the city into a place that belongs to both people and Pokémon.
