It is clear that Wall Street’s next crisis could be digital, as many of our largest financial institutions are still operating on vulnerable COBOL code written during the Eisenhower presidency. Every day, COBOL processes over $3 trillion of daily commerce, 95% of all ATM card swipes, and our checking and savings accounts. One sophisticated act of cyber espionage on this vulnerable code could wipe out trillions in economic value, severely impacting the financial stability of everyday people. But with the help of AI-powered software development, we stand a chance of avoiding another financial crisis that has been long in the making. It is vital that financial services institutions–and anyone who is still operating on COBOL and similar outdated legacy software–empower their developers with the power of AI. Our society is now dependent on the productivity gains of developers, their ability to understand these aging programming languages, and deftly convert aging code to a more secure and agile code base -- and quickly. ⏰ Read more below in my piece today for Fortune. https://lnkd.in/g648ScSS
