Looking to make a meaningful contribution to the Python community? Look no further than PyCon US 2023! Whether you're a seasoned Python pro or a newcomer to the community and looking to get involved, there's a volunteer opportunity that's perfect for you.  This year, the sign-up for volunteer roles is done directly through the PyCon US website! This way, you can view and manage shifts you sign up for through your personal dashboard ! You can read up on the different roles to volunteer for and how to sign up on the PyCon US website here .  PyCon US is largely organized and run by volunteers. Every year, we ask to fill over 300 onsite volunteer hours to ensure that everything runs smoothly at the event. And the best part? You don't need to commit a lot of time to make a difference– some shifts are as short as one hour long!  You can sign up for as many or as few shifts as you’d like. It’s only a few months until the next PyLadies Auction at PyCon 2023! 2022's auctioneers If you have yet to attend a PyLadies Auction at previous PyCons, don’t miss out this year. Help us raise money for PyLadies , an international mentorship group that focuses on helping more women become active participants and leads within the Python open source community. The 2023 PyCon US schedule has been announced! With two decades of this event series under our belt, this year's conference is sure to be a memorable one. We’re looking forward to celebrating 20 years of gathering together to connect the worldwide Python community! Posters will be featured for the second year in a row and displayed during all open hours of the Expo Hall as well as alongside presentations by the authors on Sunday, April 23, 2023. We’re saddened that the state of Utah has chosen to ban healthcare for transgender people . We can’t even imagine how trans Pythonistas and their families in Utah are feeling today. We also recognize that this makes visiting Salt Lake City from other places less appealing, especially for trans and gender-nonconforming Pythonistas.   At this moment, we’d like to reiterate our commitment to providing a safe and welcoming space at PyCon US. 2023 is a big year for PyCon US. It’s kind of hard to believe that we’ll be celebrating 20 years of code and community. And for well over half that time, PyCon US has supported early-stage entrepreneurs by offering teams complementary conference passes and booth space on Startup Row . Great news: Applications are now open, but not for long. If you’re one of those action-oriented, “do now, read later” startup founders, applying for a spot is as easy as creating an account or logging into your existing account on the PyCon US 2023 website, and then submitting an application . (The application won’t load if you aren’t signed in.) Act fast, though: Applications close on February 26, 2023, and we aim to inform recipients by early March. What is Startup Row? The core of the conference, April 21 - April 23, 2023, packs in three days worth of our community’s 95 best talks, amazing keynote speakers, and our famed lightning talks to close out each day, but it is much more than that. It’s gathering together with the members of our community, to learn from and share with. It’s joining a conversation in the hallway with the creators of open source projects. A community conference like PyCon US is in large part run by volunteers. There are many ways to get involved if you are interested in serving the community and meeting others as part of the team who makes the conference possible! The two major opportunities to volunteer before the conference are happening right now — we need volunteers to help our CFP Committees review proposal submissions and help select the topics that will be presented at this year’s conference as well as volunteers to join our Online Experience Committee to assist in enhancing the PyCon US virtual experience and boost engagement for our online attendees. CFP Reviewers We are looking for reviewers from all backgrounds to help select a diverse range of topics presented at PyCon US 2023. Proposal reviews will take place via Pretalx and the review process will be facilitated by the PyCon US CFP Committees. There will be two rounds of reviews with Round 1 beginning mid December. Our conference in Salt Lake City was a success, and we’re looking forward to returning in 2023. Planning is already underway, and today we’re excited to announce the launch of our conference website , along with Call for Proposals , and our sponsorship program ! Just like the 2022 edition, our team will be hosting the event in person with an online component. The conference will take place in Salt Palace Convention Center , from April 19th to April 27th, 2023 . The program will be filled with tutorials, talks, sprints, summits, and keynotes, with the theme of “By the community, For the community”. The first PyCon originated in 2003 in the United States, and now PyCons are being held worldwide in over 44 countries.
