💥 Excited to announce... I wrote a book! A lot of engineering leaders worked to be best engineer they could be… and then we were promoted. It's tough to transition roles. I wrote the book I wish I had when I started leading teams.

getting into foss projects is a bit like making friends in a bar near chucking out time - some incredible people are there but they are broken and might throw up mid-sentence, plus some much less incredible people who are liable to just get bored and lump half a pizza at you

The other day someone asked me how I got into open source and I had to try to remember. My answer “after making some wildly unpopular small repos, I asked this project named jQuery if they would support SVG and got in a big fight with people and have been hooked ever since”

That's what racists truly fear most. It's not Black or brown people. They fear the awakening and activation of the majority of white people that don't want to live in a racist or sexist society. Why did the FBI consider MLK more dangerous than Malcolm X?

This mindset that “DEI work should take no time” is problematic. When people say “all it takes is those in power being willing to make changes” it simplifies a complex issue.

I used to think I was the only one who didn't like small talk and just suffered through it and then read some studies about how no one really likes it and if you do it with someone you're still at base zero of building trust. What's the point of this.

If you think you're special because you overcame adversity to succeed but then also think others should have to do the same rather than trying to pave an easier road for them, you are part of the problem. Take your privilege and GTFO! 1/

Must Read - this beautiful piece on the value of values 🔥 I recalled some of instances where I sensed conflicts with my colleagues and I had to take a step back and think from their perspective to understand better Loved every bit of it and can't wait to read the entire book

🗯 I’m open sourcing some chapters from my book! This one is one of the most foundational pieces, it connects to a lot of other conversations and themes: The Value of Values. Enjoy!

Finally done with the large structural edits/refactors to the book! Whew! The editing process has illuminated what’s missing so I wrote a few more chapters as well. I’m also drawing illustrations for the different parts
