    today's idle thought: ESM is a virus, in the self-replicating sense — if your dependencies are ESM, _you_ have to be ESM. (the reverse isn't true; ESM can consume CJS dependencies just fine) consequence: ESM will take over faster than you expect. slowly at first then all at once

    I wish npm supported renaming packages. Deprecating and publishing anew isn't enough. A `new_name` key could be automatically picked up by updaters and replace the dependency automatically, for example.

    Pictured: The problem with lodash. `_.unary` could be defined as: const unary = fn => x => fn(x) But this is what happens when you import just `unary`: I'm sure it has its reasons for doing so, but as a user does it make sense? Probably not.
