Online editors are very helpful to get students started with coding, but they are never a replacement for a local workstation with a good setup. A local workstation is fundamentally yours: one can benchmark code, create a programming language, freely explore cyberspace.

It's only "important in times like these" because our systems of CS education are completely and totally stupid promoting dependencies on educators and "educational" tools instead of building *real* skills with actual workstations and tools.

Promoting web browsers over *real* coding tools is a disastrously bad approach. Educators can and should focus on *real* tools from beginning. Otherwise beginners form terrible habits and dependencies.
