I think it would be wise to wait until Spyder v4.0beta2 is tested and released before including it in a release of WinPython. Currently, I see 10 known bugs in the development version that will be fixed before release: Instead, I suggest including the latest development version of Spyder-3.3.3. A bug has been fixed since Spyder-3.3.3.dev0-2019-01-12 included in WinPython build4. Thus, this would be an improvement over the released Spyder-3.3.2. Since there are only 3 open issues, it looks like Spyder-3.3.3 will be released soon: |

Spyder is one my most important packages because I use it 8 hours a day during my whole work week. I depend upon it to make a living. I am not experiencing any of the bugs in the (released) Spyder-3.3.2. Since it can take me a day to learn and test a major revision change in Spyder, I would rather not do this (lose income) until the Spyder team has tested and released v4.0beta2. I think I will like the new features then. I suspect that many teachers using WinPython for their students have similar concerns as me. But the impact on them is multiplied by the number of students they teach. |

I agree with @hiccup7 here. I'd even advise against packaging our betas in WinPython. That would simply put more strain on us because you'd force us to support a moving, not-for-general-consumption target (the main reason to have a beta in the first place) and would delay even further a final release. @stonebig, perhaps you could create WinPython betas and package Spyder betas along with them? That'd be very appreciated by us. |
