As a transfer student, you'll pay ASU for tuition and fees, on-campus housing and meals. Books and supplies, transportation, and personal expenses will vary depending on your spending choices and should be budgeted into your college expenses. The academic departments and colleges at ASU also offer scholarships. Award amounts and criteria vary and scholarships are usually restricted to students majoring in a particular academic discipline.

Available for Arizona residents who transfer from any Arizona community college, have a minimum 3.50 cumulative GPA and demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA.

Applying for financial aid

To receive federal financial aid (grants, loans and work-study) you must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid each year. The FAFSA opens every Oct. 1 and ASU’s priority filing date is Jan. 15. Aid is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, so apply early.

File your FAFSA

Once you submit your FAFSA, check your Priority Actions box in My ASU regularly to be sure that ASU does not need any additional documents from you to verify your FAFSA. All requests will be listed in My ASU or sent to your ASU email. If you are entering ASU in the spring and already filed a FAFSA for the year, be sure to add ASU to your FAFSA (Federal School Code 001081) so we receive it.

Grants

Grants are need-based aid awarded to qualified undergraduate students demonstrating exceptional financial need. Grants do not have to be repaid as long as enrollment for the semester in which you receive the grant is maintained.

Loans

If grants, scholarships and family assistance do not cover the costs of attending college, you might consider loans. Though loan money must be repaid, federal loans typically offer the lowest interest rates. Learn more about loans and if they’re the right fit.

Federal Work-Study

Students eligible for need-based financial aid programs can participate in Federal Work-Study. This federally funded program helps students pay for college by working on or off campus. You must submit a FAFSA for consideration.

A part-time student job is a great way to earn extra income to help meet education and living expenses. ASU Earn to Learn

Arizona community college students learn financial responsibility through mentoring, workshops and building a required college savings account balance of $500 that will receive a generous 8- to-1 savings-match scholarship.
