Excellent news for those with a foreign credit card living in Shanghai, WeChat now allows you to link the card to your personal account and WeChat Wallet. Simply click on ‘wallet’ and then use the ‘add card’ feature (the same way you would add a Chinese bank card). Visa, Master Card and JCB are all linkable currently.

 There are a couple of things worth noting with the new service. First, these cards can only be used for ‘consumption payment,’ meaning you can make payments on WeChat with the card, but you’ll be unable to receive funds on the card from WeChat. Second, this service now allows you to use WeChat Pay without having a Chinese bank account.
