University Profile

History
Chartered November 1, 1956 as a senior, coeducational liberal arts college. Was established as a joint venture by the citizens of Fayetteville/Cumberland County and the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. Methodist College opened to students in the fall of 1960. In the Fall of 2006, in conjunction with the institution's 50th anniversary celebration, Methodist College officially became Methodist University. Campus
The 617-acre campus includes 51 buildings, an 18 hole golf course, football/track facility, baseball and softball fields, tennis courts, outdoor volleyball and basketball courts, and an amphitheater. Click here to view the campus map.

Community
The city of Fayetteville is North Carolina's fourth largest metropolitan area and is home to over 250,000 people, arena league football, minor league hockey and baseball teams, and numerous cultural and entertainment facilities.

Enrollment
The University today serves approximately 2,400 students—1,750 in the day program, 500 in Methodist University at Night, and 150 in graduate programs. The student/faculty ratio is 15:1. Average class size is around 20 students. The student body includes persons of diverse ages and nationalities, representing 41 states and 53 foreign countries. Approximately 40% of our students come from out of state. Almost $17 million of institutional scholarships and grants were awarded to our students last year.

Alumni
Since 1964, the University has graduated 10,293 students. Alumni have excelled in many ways; they have earned graduate degrees, advanced professionally, started their own businesses, and become leaders in their chosen fields and communities.

Residence Halls
The University can house 1,170 students in its 14 residence halls. All residence halls include air conditioning, free cable TV and local telephone service, laundry facilities, and Internet access. Areas of Study
Today the University offers bachelor's degrees in over 80 fields of study (majors and concentrations) including communications, justice studies, business administration, education, and social work. New majors and concentrations recently added include interdisciplinary studies of clandestine labs, church leadership, and radio communications. The University offers four master's degree programs: the Master of Medical Science in physician assistant studies, the Master of Business Administration in organizational management and leadership or health care administration, the Master of Justice Administration, and the Master of Education in literacy or special education. In the Fall of 2015, the University will enroll its first doctoral level students in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program.

Athletics
The University is a NCAA Division III member offering 20 intercollegiate sports. The University competes in the USA South Athletic Conference. Several years ago, the University formed the Methodist University Monarch Booster Club and the Methodist University Athletic Hall of Fame.
