The Internet Archive is looking for a smart, collaborative and resourceful engineer to develop the next generation of the Archive-It service, a web based application used by libraries and archives around the world. Archive-It is a self-sustaining subscription service first launched in 2006 and widely considered to be the market leader since its' inception. www.archiveit.org
The Internet Archive is a digital public library founded in 1996 and has the largest publicly available web archive in existence. www.archive.org
Our current system is primarily Java based and we are looking to help build the next-generation of Archive-It using the latest web technologies. We are also looking for someone who wants to dive in and help us figure out better processes, which may include code review, technical oversight and pair programming.
The ideal candidate will possess a desire to work collaboratively with a small internal team and a large, vocal and active user community; demonstrating independence, creativity, initiative and technological savvy, in addition to being a great programmer/architect.

We are looking for an outstanding person who is passionate about helping people, a compassionate individual who can also dole out tough love as is necessary, a humanist who believes that qualified people deserve a second chance. This person should believe that with the right support, leadership and motivation, individuals can move their life forward and contribute to their families and their communities.
The best person for this position, will help build, and then lead the 'work transition' portion of the 'healthy living – work transition' program described below.
This is a two-year pilot program that is comprised of a partnership between the Bay Area Rescue Mission (a 501 c 3 not-for-profit), the Internet Archive ( a 501 c 3 not-for-profit) and national employers such as Costco. Successful graduates from a drug and alcohol recovery program run by the Bay Area Rescue Mission will go through a 6-month work transition program at the Internet Archive. The work transition program will teach formerly unemployed individuals the skills, habits and behaviors that will become part of a work history for each person. Successful graduates of this ‘healthy living - work transition†program, will then be eligible to interview and then, hopefully secure jobs with national and local employers who are a part of this program. If this pilot is successful, the program will continue past the two-year point and scale across California and the US.
