BANGOR - Republican Gov. John R. McKernan launched his campaign for a second four-year term yesterday, touting a record he said outshines that of Joseph E. Brennan, the Democrat who preceded him in office and is contesting his reelection bid.

"Being governor is more than just showing up. Being governor is more than just saying that you care. Being governor is knowing where you want the state to go, and it's delivering results," McKernan told about 80 supporters at a hotel near Bangor Airport.

McKernan, his voice cracking from laryngitis at the first of five planned campaign stops around the state, singled out individuals who benefited from programs to promote child care, …
