Fiat assembled its models in South Africa from 1950 until the beginning of the 1980s. In 1990 the South African Nissan resumed, commissioned by Fiat, the production of the Uno hatchback, which remained part of the firm�s program till 2004. The Palio hatchback, produced since 1999, was replaced in January 2005 by the 3/5-door Palio II, equipped with 1.2-liter 74 hp; 1.6-liter 101 hp or TD 1.7-liter 69 hp engines (identical to the Brazilian Palio of 2002). The Siena sedan, manufactured since 2000, was replaced in January 2005 by the Siena II model, which is identical to the Brazilian Siena of 2004 and available with 1.2-liter 74 hp; 16-liter 101 hp or TD 1.7-liter 69 hp engines. The Strada pick-up was launched in mid-2005.
