Welcome to the DRAFT NOTEBOOK by Stevenson's Scouting Service. 

This effort began in 1981 with the goal of becoming the most accurate and enjoyable source of information and experienced opinions based on the annual National Football League Draft.  After starting this effort in the Midwest, it is currently based out of Wood Ranch, California, but obtains information from sources across the country.
 Stevenson's Scouting Service does not claim to be "league insiders", but prefer to be known simply as what it is ... a completely independent scouting organization that provides information and opinions on the annual NFL Draft.  Based on experience, accuracy of scouting reports and projections, and feedback from league sources and customers around the world - I believe these publications are the comprehensive and enjoyable NFL Draft products available to the general public!  For more information about Stevenson's Scouting Service, click HERE.

HOMETOWN: Lynwood IL — BORN: 12/18/84 — PREP: Rushed for 2365 yards with 38 touchdowns as a senior. — MAJOR: Sport Management
COLLEGE
2003: Played in six games as a true freshman. Averaged 19.1 yards/kick return for 134 yards. — 2004: Played in eleven games as a sophomore. Averaged 27.1 yards/kick return for 677 yards with a touchdown. Rushed for 188 yards versus Michigan State. — 2005: Started six of eleven games for the Fighting Illini as a junior. Averaged 23.0 yards/kick return for 461 yards. Shared time at the position with E. B. Halsey. — 2006: Started ten of twelve games as a senior. Averaged 31.9 yards/kick return for 223 yards.
SCOUTING REPORT
STRENGTHS: Experienced. Has played versus very good I-A competition. Strong build. 21 reps of 225#. 35½" vertical. Runs with good vision and balance. Effective between the tackles. Able to break tackles and gain yards after initial contact. Smooth change of directions. Patient, allows blocks to develop before accelerating through the hole. Runs north south. Can bounce the play outside. Can make the first defender miss. Able to convert short yardage plays. Protects the ball. Capable receiver out of the backfield. Shows some ability as a route runner. Will extend hands and catch the ball out away from body. Shows blocking ability with good blitz awareness and recognition. Has been effective returning kicks. Hard worker. Coachable, will do the film study, weight room work, and the little things to be effective on the next level. Competitive team player. — CONCERNS: Average instincts. Lacks a burst and the speed to take it the distance. Not elusive or creative. Was not invited to the Combine. — SUMMARY: Not flashy, but a halfback than can run, catch, block, and return kicks.

Thomas was an undrafted free agent that signed with the New Orleans Saints following the draft. Over the preseason, he averaged an impressive 5.8 yards/carry for 190 yards with 3 touchdowns and 15.8 yards/catch for 95 yards. He also stood out on special teams averaging 26.8 yards/kick return for 161 yards. Despite selecting Ohio State's Antonio Pittman in the fourth round, it was Thomas that impressed during the preseason and earned a spot on the opening day roster. He will provide quality depth behind Deuce McAlister and Reggie Bush.

HOMETOWN: Tulsa OK — BORN: 5/26/83 — PREP: Recorded 104 tackles and 9 sacks as a senior. Recorded 20 tackles, 3 sacks, and 2 blocked punts in a single game. Lettered in football and basketball. Team captain in both sports. — MAJOR: Consumer Science
COLLEGE
2001: Redshirt with torn cartilage in right knee that required surgery. — 2002: Played in all thirteen games as a freshman. Added 2 forced fumbles and a pressure. — 2003: Started six of thirteen games as a sophomore. Added 7 pressures. — 2004: Started all twelve games at right end for the Tide as a junior. Added 8 pressures, 2 forced fumbles, and 2 passes broken up. — 2005: Started all twelve games as a senior. Added 7 pressures, one forced fumble, and a blocked kick.
SCOUTING REPORT
ATHLETIC ABILITY: Athletic. 20# lighter than average. 20 reps of 225#. Will need to add strength. Long arms. Runs well. Straight line speed. 42" vertical. — POSITION SKILLS: Excels as a pass rusher. Has been disruptive. Explodes off the ball. Stays low and plays with leverage. Needs to work at using hands better to play off and shed blocks. Average instincts, not always quick to locate the ball. Moves well laterally, able to slide down the line and get through traffic. Struggles some changing directions. Does well on stunts. Has the speed to turn the corner. Closes with a very good burst. Effective keeping containment, but must avoid over-pursuing. Can be overpowered versus the run. Disciplined, plays within the scheme. — LEVEL OF COMPETITION: I-A SEC — DURABILITY: Right knee in 2001. — BOTTOM LINE: Coming off impressive senior season. Beat D'Brickashaw Ferguson for a sack at the Senior Bowl. Showed outstanding athletic ability at the combine. Could go as high as the second round.

Anderson was a fifth round draft choice (#159 overall) of the Chicago Bears, but was expected to go much higher based on productivity and tremendous athletic ability. He made an immediate impact as a rookie with the NFC Champions recording 28 tackles and 12 sacks.

SCOUTING REPORT
ATHLETIC ABILITY: Limited athletic ability. 1" shorter and 15# heavier than average. 19 reps of 225#. 26½" vertical. — POSITION SKILLS: Experienced and durable four-year starter. Technically sound. Gets off the ball quickly and into setup. Stays low. Uses hands well. Average hand punch. Able to slide laterally. Understands angles and positioning. Can change directions. Stays under control and maintains balance. Shows blitz awareness and recognition. Excels in the running game. Effective drive blocker. Creates movement. Aggressive and plays with a mean streak. Able to pull and trap. Works hard to sustain and finish. — LEVEL OF COMPETITION: I-A Big Ten — BOTTOM LINE: Over-shadowed by C Greg Eslinger, but a very solid pure guard that will start in the NFL. Will need to improve pass blocking skills.

The Saint Louis Rams selected Setterstrom in the 7th round (#242 overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft. After starting six of seven games as a rookie last season, the former Golden Gopher now has a firm hold on the starting left guard position and should be a fixture there for years.

COLLEGE
2001: Started five of ten games as a true freshman. Missed one game with a sore right groin. Returned both interceptions for touchdowns. — 2002: Started all thirteen games as a sophomore. Added 3 tackles for loss. — 2003: Started eleven games as a junior. Missed two games due to a right hip pointer. Added 4 tackles for loss. Averaged 20.8 yards/kick return for 83 yards. Averaged 17.9 yards/punt return for 233 yards with 2 touchdowns. — 2004: Started seven games as a senior. Missed time with a broken forearm. Was not allowed to play in the team's bowl game due to violations of team rules. Added one tackle for loss and 2 forced fumbles. Averaged 27.7 yards/punt return for 249 yards with a touchdown. Impressed at the Senior Bowl.
SCOUTING REPORT
ATHLETIC ABILITY: Outstanding athletic ability. Under-sized, 1" shorter and 15# lighter than average. Plays bigger than he measures. 16 reps of 225#. Very good foot speed. 39" vertical. — POSITION SKILLS: Shows the ability to play man or zone coverages. Instinctive, very quick to read and react. Uses hands well. Plays a physical game. Will jam the receiver on the line. Tries to break timing between quarterback and receiver. Smooth back pedal and hip turn. Very good feet. Has the speed to run with most receivers. Plays the ball well in the air. Shows recovery speed. Decent hands for the interception. Comes up quickly in run support. Reliable tackler, will wrap up the ball carrier. Disciplined, plays within the scheme. Has also been used to return kicks and punts. — LEVEL OF COMPETITION: I-A Big XII — CHARACTER: Quality person with the respect of teammates. Hard worker, studies film, and prepares for each game. Was suspended for the team's bowl game this year for violating team rules. Scored 25 on the Wonderlic test. — DURABILITY: Right hip pointer in 2003. Broken forearm in 2004. — SUMMARY: Will likely slip some due to size, but this kid is a player!

Although a first round talent, Williams was eventually drafted in the second round (#56 overall) by the Denver Broncos. Prior to his tragic death, Darrent showed he was one of the top young corners in the game while recording 139 tackles, one sack, 6 interceptions, and 13 passes broken up in two seasons (27 games) playing opposite Champ Bailey. He also excelled on special teams averaging 24.3 yards/kick return for 437 yards and 8.4 yards/punt return for 354 yards.
