It's #WorldBrailleDay and Louis Braille's birthday! 🎉 At the young age of 15, Louis #Braille developed the tactile reading and writing system that has changed the lives of so many people who are blind or visually impaired
Alongside a painting of Louis Braille, white text reads: “Louis Braille was just 15 years old when he developed the six-dot system that now bears his name.” Below the text is the Perkins School for the Blind logo as well as hashtags for #NationalBrailleLiteracyMonth and #BrailleLiteracy.

We love this moment between Menachem and his #Teacher as they race down the #Track during our annual Track Championship meet! His teacher walks beside him as he holds on to the #Guidewire and she makes sure he KNOWS that he can do it, every step of the way 🏃

Let's put a stop to #ableism in our language! By switching ableist terms like “handicapped/crippled” with accepted terms like “disabled,” we can all become part of change for the better. Even @Beyonce and @Lizzo have taken action in their lyrics! Thanks for setting an example!
Two sections of text side by side. On the left: X with text: Avoid “hearing impaired.” Check mark with text: Use “Deaf; Hard-of-Hearing.” On the right: X with text: Avoid “sight challenged.” Check mark with text: Use “blind; low vision; visually impaired.”
Two sections of text side by side. On the left: X with text: Avoid “handicapped; crippled.” Check mark with text: Use “disabled; disability.” On the right: X with text: X with text: Avoid “I’m so OCD.” Check mark with text: Use “I’m so particular/precise.”
Two sections of text side by side. On the left: X with text: En Español, evitas “cojo.” Check mark with text: Usas “persona(s) con discapacidad.” On the right: X with text: En Español, evitas “sordomudo; sordo/a.” Check mark with text: Usas “persona que está sordo/a o/y mudo/a.”
Two sections of text side by side. On the left: X with text: Avoid “spaz” which is derived from “spastic,” another problematic word in some areas. These are negatively associated with cerebral palsy among other disabilities. On the right: Check mark with text: Remember, the most important thing is to always respect how the person wants to identify.
