- Captain Obvious Reveal: It's revealed in Episode 5 that Nazzer is the leader of the Black Blood Gang, which is supposed to surprise Zein. Maybe in the book this reveal was effective, but said book has been out for nine years at this point. Plus, the marketing and the cast make no secret whatsoever of the fact that Keagan De Jesus portrays Nazzer, the leader of the Black Blood Gang. (This is even stated in Keagan's solo teaser clip for HU.)
- Foe Yay Shipping: Because of their penchant for getting really close to Zein to intimidate her and Zein refusing to back out, it's easy to ship the Black Blood Gang's Terrible Trio (Nazzer, Nicky, and Luke) with Zein. Some fans have noticed the chemistry between Zein and them.
- Unintentionally Sympathetic: In Episode 5, Vanessa chews out Liam for helping her with her schoolwork, then using said kindness to coerce her into a date that she never agreed to. She's right, yet immediately after, she apologizes for her absolutely justified rant by saying that the school is just making her mean. Her friends also show up to ship Vanessa with Liam. It's unfortunate how the show disregards that Vanessa already said she's not interested in the pushy Liam's advances.
- Vanilla Protagonist: Many fans find the Black Blood Gang, especially Nicky, far more interesting to watch than the main group of friends.
