Edward II

Go To

  • Retroactive Recognition: The 1991 version features a pre-Game of Thrones Jerome Flynn as Kent.
  • Values Resonance: Astonishingly for a play written in the Renaissance, the play and the lords emphasize an utter indifference to Edward II's homosexuality as the reason for their rage and disaffection. For a play where you might expect homosexuality to be Edward's fatal flaw, plenty of lords reference historic gay rulers. Their objection to Edward is for his handling of more kingly matters and his preference for male lovers who were beneath him in rank.
